venison pie...got a recipe??

Mmmmmm.... I LOVE meat pies.

I suck at pastry though...

But basically it's stew in pastry, so if you can figure out the crust part you're all set!

I like to use a little Guiness in my stew base, and mushrooms.
 
you want one made with ground meat or stew meat style???
I have both lol ( yes I have wayyy to many recipes happen when you cook for a living lol )
I will get my book out and write both recipes out for you :)
 
I just throw a couple pounds of my venison stew meat in the crock pot with some onion soup mix for a few hours until tender, then I add some potatoes and carrots, chopped onion, and wahtever seasonings I feel like. Once everything is cooked, I make some pie pastry (I just use the recipe on the side of the Tenderflake Lard box) and go nuts. I usually make half a dozen large ones, and a dozen or more small ones, then freeze them. I've also done the same with leftover turkey and gravy from Thanksgiving. Just make a stew that you like, nice and thick, and then throw it in a pie crust.

Mmmmmmmm, venison meat pie. I'll see if I ca get my mom's. Its awesome. She usually makes about 20 for her boys.
 
Tourtier style venison pie

Hi,

We use this all the time with moose and whitetail and red deer. No need to use pork - just make up the whole amount of meat with whatever game you want to use. The potato pastry in particular is fantastic and an easy pastry to make.

Recipe stolen without permission from Chez Piggy cookbook (so if ever in Kingston drop in for a meal to make up for it).

ok sorry for the delay been making sausages and all that good stuff with the 4 deer we got :D ( only half done and 8 kind of sausages so far lol )

chucky meat pie

pie crust of your choice

In a large pot melt 2 tbsp butter and add
1 bulb garlic that been roasted ( remove all the paper thats around the garlic)
( cut off bottom of bulp cover in oil and cook in 250* oven for 30 mins)
1 small onion diced small
1 large carrot diced fine
2 celery ribs diced fine

fry until everything is soft
then add
about 4-6 cup venison
Fry until outsides of meat is brown
once meat is brown add
1 c carrots diced
1 c celery diced
1 c parsnip diced
1 c baby potato's cut in 4's
1 c mushrooms sliced
6 -8 c beef broth
1 c frozen peas and corn ( each)
1pkg knorr cream of leek soup mix
cook until potato's are soft about 30 mins
thicken with a roux ( 1/2 c melted butter mix with 3/4c flour mixed well)
thicken until nice and thick let cool
add
1 c heavy cream mix really well
pour into pie shells top with pie shell or mashed potato's
