Venison with dried fruit.

2 kg venison cubed, about 1 to 2 inch size cubes.

3 large onions coarsely chopped.

200 grams raisins (about 2 handfuls)

300 grams pitted prunes (about 2 cups full)

1 teaspoon of cinnamon.

a few basil leaves chopped.

1 teaspoon of sugar

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
handfull of blanched almonds (optional)

salt and pepper about 1/2 teaspoon.

cooking oil.

1/2 to 1 cup water.

directions:

in medium pot add some cooking oil and brown the venison (just to seal in flavor).
Take venison out of pot and set in bowl on the side.
in the same pot you cooked the venison (now empty) add the chopped onions and a bit more oil.
cook onions on medium so they brown (not black).
when onions are light brown add the raisins, prunes and the cinnamon, stir for a min or two.
Add the venison back to the pot and stir, add salt , pepper, nutmeg, sugar, almonds, chopped basil and about 1/2 to one cup of water(just enough to cover about 2/3 of the pot content.add some salt and pepper to taste.
Stir the mix and bring to a boil.
After it boils turn heat down to the lowest setting and place lid so it just simmers.
let it simmer for about 2.5 hours.

serve over some nice white rice.
