I have a few 870 barrels that I'm finishing by hand right now to get out to the first few customers, and had a request for a vent-rib 12.5.
To justify the set-up and CNC time I would need a few orders or requests for them to keep the prices realistic. What do guys think? A viable project, or a waste of time?

I don't know about a vent rib, but if you can fix a ballpark price for the 12.5 inch barrel, and a reasonable estimate of a delivery time, you will have orders lining up, mine included.

Any luck on the honing issue, or is that the job you must finish by hand?

Waste of time and money. But hey if someone wants to pay you extra for their dream barrel and you've got the time..... Probably better to focus on the plain barrels. Will we be able to get the barrels in custom lengths? I might want one at say 14.5 inches. Thanks for keeping with the project!

As far as the honing goes, I'm screwed here. Ive been polishing and honing with the coarsest stones and flapwheels I have :? . Takes forever. They're not turning out too bad though. Not smooth as glass, but it definately won't foul with lead or wads. I have seven left but I think on Mon I'm ordering a back boring reamer. The reamed bore should only need minor polishing/honing after that. If we can't get the barrel cylinders made at a reasonable price, this is the way we'll do it. Prices are still set at $299.00 for either length, blasted/blued. Parkerizing will be extra, but I think I can get it done reasonably in quantity for those that want it.

I would much rather see front and rear rifle sights on them then a rib. I bet you would get alot of action for rifle sights.

put them both on the barrel. so when you stick a 28" or another barrel on the rear sight isn't in the way. like the 20" combo barrel.

I'm the one who asked about the vent rib, is it neccessary? No. Will it improve performance? No. I simply want it for cosmetic reasons. I just like the look of the vent rib barrels and I would be mounting a MMC solder on ramp to make the vent ribs absolutely useless, with a Scatterguntech rear sight. Would it be legal for Dlask to cut an existing vent rib barrel down to 12.5" for me if their isn't enough interest to justify a small run of barrels?

Scott, good point on the rifle sights, I'm sure that their would be lots of interest for those. If this doesn't pan out then I know that I'd be interested.

I'm on the original list for one of these barrels, and I'd vote strongly in favor of rifle sights. I love them on my 20" barrel. Far superior to the bead, very accurate and super-fast target aquisition. Tritium replacements are available as well. 8)

rifle sights suck, if anyting offer them with a trijicon / wilson track lok front sight installed, so those of us with wilsons allready on our 870's don;t have to buy a whole set just to get the front sight.

I'm supposed to take ths seriously coming from a guy who intentionally scrapes his scrotum with razor blades??

Sorry Wes, couldn't resist. ;)

Short rifled barrel please. I'm thinking about 16" - absolutely shortest legal length isn't necessary for me. I don't need a vent rib, but I can live with it.
