So, back story is, i bought a versa max sportsman and love the gun. Happy it didn't cost me a mortgage payment either and very happy with how it performs.
I have used a few types of ammo in it and enjoy the Black cloud and Blindside. I went to pattern my gun this year as i got new chokes from Carlson that were a great advantage when i owned my Benelli SN, and made my groups nice and tight for good leathality.
My issue is, Carlson states not to run anything over 1550fps through a full choke. A few other brands say the same but When i called Remington, to ask specifically "using a Remi Versa max sportsman, with a remi full extended choke, with their hyper-sonic ammo rated at 1700 fps, will this be dangerous, void warranty, or is this something they have tested and what were the short and long term results?". There reply by phone " there is nothing on the remi web sight or in the data remi has that states this ammo in combination of these specific remi products that mentions it is not safe in a full choke or that anything over 1500 fps is dangerous to put through a pro-bore full choke tube". Not sure but if everyone else that makes chokes (that i have googled) say to stay under 1550 in a full choke, makes me wonder if the tech calling me back knows or just couldnt find a quick answer.
I'm asking your opinions on this subject or anyone's personal experience with this ammo. I ask as i have 3 boxes, 1x #2 and 2x bb that i would like to use this season for duck and geese, but dont want my mod choke in as it patterns outside the lethal charts I've looked at for ranges over 30 yrds, so my thought to put a full choke in would allow me to go to at least 40 with confidence for a hummain kill. Or i skip it and try my best to exchange the ammo or eat the cost of 3 boxes i wont use.
anyone have better knowledge, i cant see myself being the only one thinking this hard about patterns and ammo through their gun, but need some advice and or experience.
