Versamax or Maxus?

I'm looking into purchasing a new auto-loader (obviously) and haven't made up my mind. It needs to be able to cycle the lightest trap all the way up to the 3.5s without giving me too much of a beating. I'm torn between the Browning Maxus and Remington Versamax. I've done lots and lots of research and they seem to be comparable. I have felt both guns and they both seem to sit the same for me but I haven't been able to get my hands on one to shoot near where I live (Regina). I'm looking for any personal experience you guys might have with these.

Two club members used the Maxus for trap and skeet for an entire year without either of them cleaning their gun. Between the two guns, there was not a single malfunction.
 
I shoot a buddies versa max fairly regularly for 5-stand, shooting light target loads the recoil is negligible. Only time it's ever jammed (in my hands) I failed to fully feed a shell into the mag tube. Swings pretty nice, feels sturdy and from what he tells me handles the heavy loads well too. I haven't shot a maxus, but I'd feel confident buying my own versamax. Also well regarded by the guys down at Wholesale in Winnipeg. One of them has been hunting with it since it came out.
 
Maxus to any remington made today is like an apple to an orange. If I was allowed to keep only one semi shot gun and I have a few different ones it would be my Maxus.
 
I shoot a Browning Maxus for clays, and it's functioned flawlessly with light loads. It's an incredibly soft shooting gun - you could shoot it all day.
 
Looks to me like both guns perform similarly. Because of the price differences at my local gun stores I'll probably go with the versamax. I also don't really like that fake wood finish on the maxus. Thanks for all the help!!!

I don't have first hand experience, but the reading/research I have done indicates the SX3 is similar to the Browning Gold or Silver. The Maxus is new, and its own design.

Welcome to CGN, where you can ask any question you want, as long as you don't expect relevant answers! Allow me to demonstrate:

My A400 Unico has been awsome. I have fed it 3.5 2 once shells followed by 2 3/4 light target loads, mixed with every other size available in the market. I have done it on purpose and in order to trigger a failure. So far not even one failure to cycle. I hate it though, because it doesn't fit me well.

Thanks! I just wish I could test fire both of them. So many guns today perform so well it comes almost always comes down to preference of fit and feel. But on a forum that's like asking people which kind of Beer is the best or the best way to cook a steak.

Compared to what???:cool: Not being a smart ass just looking for some real feedback from those that have one and may have owned a gold, x2 or x3 etc in the past.
It is currently one of the semi's I don't own. I have shot one of the earlier ones and am still not sure if I should add one to the herd.
It didnot have the same impression the maxus had one me that is for sure.Let say enough dispite the fact I still had my two 3 1/2" browning golds I bought a maxus also.That doesn't happen often for me.

Update:Just read your review nice job. I'm sorry I didnot mean to put you on the spot and didnot realise this was your 1st 12ga semi. Glad it works the way you expected. take care
 
I also don't really like that fake wood finish on the maxus.

None of the maxus I know of have a fake wood finish.they are either walnut or synthetic .when I bought mine I went with the synthetic has I knew that the gun would be used rough around the canoe and water .so far I have no complaints its been an awesome shotgun .for me the maxus was a better fit than the versa max and i also liked the slimmer forend and pistol grip of the maxus compared to the versa max not to menision the lighter weight.I also like the speed load feature on the maxus its real quick to reload when the shooting is fast and furious.
 
i recently had both the versamax and the maxus....both were totally flawless for as long as i owned with no glitches at all....overall i would go with the maxus of the 2 just for the lighter weight and the nicer duratouch camo
