I know Remington went the way of the Dodo but my understanding is that the company has been broken up / sold off and some of those parts are in operation again (think I saw new Remington branded firearms on this site recently).

Anyways does anyone know where to source new parts for Remington shotguns (Versamax specifically)? Looking for a new extractor / ejector. Mine has gotten picky recently and doesn't like certain ammo so I figure replacing these parts would rule worn out parts as the cause.

I suspect this is a worn part issue (gun seems to run fine with one specific brand of ammo but I need to test more to validate that), weird thing is that it used to run everything with zero issues but now some malfunctions are starting to creep in (I bought a heap of this ammo at one point so it is all the same ammo / same brand / same lot which used to run perfectly).

I have disassembled & extensively cleaned the gun including pistons etc (and changed the action spring) but the issues continue. The two things I keep seeing are:

1) Gun jams as the empty cartridge is still in the chamber after firing (bolt goes back but doesn't grab / extract the empty case - suggests extractor issue - very sporadic as would be the case with part wear)

2) Gun jams as the spent cartridge was extracted but doesn't get ejected and so results in a double feed type scenario when it tries to chamber the new round off the lifter (suggests ejector issue - very sporadic as would be the case with part wear).

Try Casey at Tacord. A couple of guys shooting action shotgun have them. They can’t seem to get through a stage without a jam. They only seem to work if the oil is dripping out of them. They actually bring spray cans of oil with them

Talking to Gravel agency who will be the Rem Arms rep for Canada. No parts untill at least next year.
I've had parts on order for 3yrs now

I've had parts on order with Gravel too for a long time (years). Sounds like parts are going to become available which gives some hope.....

...What? I run a Versamax, and at least 3 other buddies do as well. They all run flawless. You just have to keep the pistons clean-ish. I clean mine at the end of the season, runs like a top.

Mine is a Tacord, used to run awesome and wasnt fussy at all about cleaning or ammo but something has changed.

I have been in touch with Casey (Casey is awesome) and he feels that it is most likely ammo related but for the reasons I have mentioned (gun originally run awesome / wasnt fussy about cleaning / wasnt picky on ammo & I am using the same ammo now that used to run great and its a jamomatic) I am not so sure, logically I think its something else (worn parts).

Casey advises to run the gun wet (0W20 motor oil from memory).

Is is picky on ammo?

You are right about the pistons, they can get crusty and stick - should hear a "rattle" sound when being handled if the pistons are clean / free.

Nope, they chew up everything. Low recoil target loads seem to run fine. Lol yup, hold it vertical, shake it up and down. Clunk clunk, good to go. No clunk clunk, clean the pistons.

Thats what I figured. Something is up for sure. Mine used to eat anything but now it dont.

Are they Challenger shells by any chance?

Probably 90% Challenger. I bought a heap of 7.5 birdshot a few years ago and it ran like a champ, now it won't run this ammo (same ammo from the original purchase which used to be fine).

I also purchased some new Challenger (light blue & white boxes from memory) and it ran like total garbage - worst by far. I have also tried Winchester and Federal with varying success but not 100% reliable for either.

I tried a box of Hornady #4 buckshot the other day and it seemed to run fine (was only 10 in the box though).

Been reading up a little and it sounds like Benelli M2 extractors will fit / work in the Versamax - can anyone confirm?

If so this might be one option to replace the extractor.

Can confirm the M2 extractor will work…pretty sure it’s the same one in the Nova/SuperNova…but not the M4.
A dude at an IPSC shotgun match a couple years ago ended up borrowing a spare M2 extractor from me for his VM when it started acting up at a match…He specifically asked for M2 parts…To my knowledge he hasn’t changed it out yet and I’ve seen him and his VM at a dozen matches since and it’s still running.

Excellent!

Anyone know where a guy can pick up a Benelli M2 extractor in Canada?
