Versapod vs. Harris

Well after an extended shooting session with my rifle, I discovered that a) the 9-12" bipod was slightly uncomfortably high, and b) the Versapod doesn't tighten very much (I canted the rifle slightly every time I pushed the bolt down).
I'm going to call HWMNBN as soon as he's open again, but until then, what do you guys think I should do? I shot PHM's C3 and he had a 6"-9" (correct me if I'm wrong) Harris with Pod-Lock, and it was more comfortable to shoot as well as being much sturdier. Should I switch to Harris? I've been told the Versapods are sturdier, but so far I'm not convinced.

I've tried both and settled for the Harris w/pod lock. Simply put, it was lower and I can lock it down once I adjust for cant.

If you know someone who has one (or someone at the range you go to) ask if you can bolt it one for a couple rounds.

I've had both, I slightly prefer the versapod. The Harris is definitely is more sturdy, but I found that it requires a great deal more fiddling around time in setting up the shot than the versapod. I guess that's the price you pay for the added sturdiness.

I have used the Harris and now the versa pod. Mine is the 7"-9" and I must say I like it alot. I find this size perfect for bench and prone shooting at a range. Not so much out in the field.
Maybe a shorter one would fit you better. If not, you can't go wrong with a Harris either.

I used Harris for years, now have swapped over to VersaPods.
Like some say, it is all in what floats your boat.
Try both, decide for yourself.
You could not pay me enough to own another Ford or Chev, and you couldn't pay me enough to get my Dodge away from me.
Forget asking others on this type of thing, all you will get is confused, it all boils down to what works and feels best for YOU.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I've tried both, and like Versapod's style with the mount and the way the legs fold a lot better, but I've found the Harris 'pods are a lot sturdier and I can tighten them a lot better. I'm not sure if the tradeoff is copmletely worth it, but I'll see if I can try out PHM's Harris on the weekend again and make a comparison.

Yeah that's what I'm not really sure of either; I'd like the extra height for certain applications, but I know I'm going to be using this rifle more on the range than anywhere else, so I think it'll be better to sacrifice possible versatility for stability and comfort.
One more thing: Is there any sort of device to tighten a Versapod further?

We've been through this a dozen times, Both are great products I own both and prefer Versa pod....It's a preference, and you have to go with what is comfortable for you and performs for you. Every individual is going to go with what suits there shooting style and preference and everyone is different, that is why we have so much variety to choose from.:D If you want the best, most stable portable rest for a rifle platform it isn't even a bipod:eek: :D

Sorry for posting the same question, I just couldn't find the other thread I made about this.
I'll see if I can try out a Harris again, and see where I go from there. Hopefully I'll be able to get rid of my Versapod easily if need be. How much do these things usually sell for? 9-12 aluminum with rubber.
Oh and I know what you mean about those fugly portable rest things. Man those things look horrible:p!

How so? I could see that being true, but from what I've shot the Harris feels a lot sturdier and rugged to me. If there's any way to further tighten a Versapod then please let me know.

Wait until you fold up a couple of Harris bipods, then it will become most apparent.

knockknock: Yeah true, I really don't like the spring flip-up legs.

Airborn: I remember talking to him about that; he doesn't stock Harris, but can get them brought in. I'll talk to him when the shop re-opens, and see what his take ia on things. I'm not completely sure if I'll switch to a Harris; it depends on how easily I can get a 7-9" and whether or not it's stable.

The 6-9 swivel Harris bipod should work well. Add the ### Locking lever kit an it will work even better.:)

The versapod bipods also work well for some and the addition of the cant friction lock is a welcome improvement. If you have this model and are experiencing problems in tightening it, you might want to increase its diameter or replace it with one that is a bit bigger in diameter to increase the torque with the available force.

The Harris is also a quieter unit....
