Wondering how versatile the 870 tactical can be. Love the look of the breech choke, extended mag and ghost sight.

By adding some chokes will this make a decent platform for small game (grouse etc) and some casual trap shooting?

I know it's not great because of barrel length but will it be totally useless?

I shoot clays (informal/casual only) with mine with a modified choke installed regularly. The ghost ring sights maybe aren't the best for this, but it will certainly still work. Can't see that you'd have any issues with small game etc either, though check your hunting regs about plugging the mag tube.

I shoot clays with mine as well, but I leave the breacher choke in... mostly because I dont own anything else. I shoot slugs out of it from time to time and at 50 yards can get 3 into a 4 inch circle with just the ghost ring sights. I think its an excellent platform for a do all gun. I dont hunt though, so my opinion may be useless.

Some clubs restrict barrel length on what you can use for clays, so you will not be able to use the gun for clays everywhere, best to check.

I have one and find the pointy ends on the breacher choke a bit 'aggressive' -- holes in my floor mat in the gun room, a shirt and a pair of pants so far (while being a but casual while handling the barrel off the gun for cleaning). The gun, like all current issue 870s, also rusts easily, so you need to keep a close eye on gun care and oiling. nice gun, fun to shoot.
