Is there any pros and cons with having one on a 870
was thinking the tango down (cuz of the preasure switch) or,
AG-44-S from fab defense (does not have the light)
There has to be a reason people DONT have them

For one, I'd be concerned about easily twisting the forend on its rails.

In general, I don't like any vertical grips on any long gun.

No, the factory rails that are part of the factory 870 fore-end tube assembly are as durable as they'll get, no better replacement parts exist.

It's not that they'll break off, rather twist in their channels and cause cycling problems. Can't be avoided because of the leverage tension. Good that there are two rails on the 870s, Mossbergs fore-end for instance, slides on one rail only.

well i do have a HP9 so would it be worth while to get a factory rem tube assembly ?

I really don't think so. No matter how good the steel is, it's always going to twist because of the length of the rails and the torsion applied sideways.

Good god man! What do you think you are doing? :D Vertical grip on a shotty?!??! Why? I get the feeling you, and many many others, are accessorizing for all the wrong reasons.

Are you:

"Can I accessorize without any problems"

or

"Can I accessorize to solve a problem".

What problem is a vertical grip going to solve for you on a pump action shotgun? What advantage does it confer? I'm sure I'll get spanked by everyone for saying this, but what the hell is the point of a vertical foregrip on any civilian legal firearms? And YES a vertical fore end will have you apply more torque on your rails. Ahhh the power of leverage.

What I'm really asking is..please...stop the madness.....think of the kittens.

People who use their guns more under duress like Military, Police, etc. are more prone to twisting fore-ends and malfunctions. I guess if you're just taking photos, it won't be a problem.

In this case you can, but shouldn't. Lots of people have done it, but you may very well fubar your rails, or find that your jamming too often. But if your in the mood, have at her and enjoy the monstrosity you've created :D as long as you can tolerate the weight/bulk you can accessorize to your hearts content.

There is nothing to worry about as far as adding a vertical grip to the forend of your 870. I have done many tactical mods to most of my guns, including what you speak of with no issues whatsoever.

"Can I accessorize to solve a problem".

I thought a vertical grip would solve a problem for my 8.5" Dlask 870, by letting me get a better and safer grip on the little, corrugated foreend, so I got a relatively inexpensive vertical grip for around $24. On the Dlask it turned out to be a diagonal grip once attached, but nevermind. It also gave me room to put a tactical light on the other diagonal rail, looked very cool until the first shot, cycled the dry shotgun very well with surprisingly little twisting.
Got to the range to try it out . . . The cheap plastic [surprisingly popular name-brand deleted] grip broke loose, shattered with the first 3" magnum round . . . but the rails are OK. Not sure if i should spend the money and get a good one or just continue to wear gloves when shooting the little thing . . .
Anyway, here's a case of a problem potentially solved by an accessory, but evidently not by a cheap one. That's my story, could have been better -- as we all know or inevitably find out, in the long run cheap parts cost more. Any suggestions for a quality vertical grip available in Canada which can actually accept recoil?

I use Tango Down and Knights Armamnent but these are all up from the US. Can`t get them here. My brother inlaw like FAB. It is OK and you can usually find it here or on Ebay.
