We were out shooting gophers 3 days this week. I used 2 .22 and so did my partner. I have a 10/22 volquartsen and a Rem. 597 Yellowjacket. Both will shoot 1/2-3/4 in when I am on the ball. My buddy would like an auto as well. It must be close to his CZ in accuracy. Any ideas (and price). Had a great shoot, both shooting 2500-3000 rounds. Real hard on my mini-mag supply :(. He shot Fed. ammo. The damn seagulls followed us around the fields like a gravy train.

Sounds like you have a couple accurate auto-loaders there. I've yet to shoot an autoloader that eclipses my best bolt gun in accuracy, but with some work...they can get close. My Marlin 795 does well with a MCARBO spring kit, and if I was serious about the accuracy...I'd get off my rear end and re-work the sear...maybe put on a heavier BOYD's stock. Marlin made a heavy-barrel 795 gun called a Marlin 7000 and personally...that would top my list for the money. (good luck finding one though) Another gem (discontinued I think) is the Thompson/Center R-55® Benchmark. Great reputation for accuracy, but do some reading. Apparently, they're ammo-fussy and made to high tolerances. Not sure what it would take to choke-out one of those in a gopher patch. I guess Magnum Research is another option, as is a CZ512.

I had a MR and sold it! I thought it was too much $$. My partner would have to pay double what I sold it for now. I have heard good things about the TC. Not sure why the discontinued. I will look up the Marlin.

CZ 512 for a more "classic look", review says they shoot just like their bolt action (and you can get it in WMR)
ANSCHÜTZ MSR RX22 if you don't mind the more "tactical" look.

Remington 552 speedmaster for my pick.
I had one years ago and regret selling it now in a way.
The rifle was very accurate and easy to dissassemble and handled about any kind of ammo i put in, the high cap tube mag made for easy loading without having sore black thumbs. It even shot cb longs but had to be cycled manually. They are quite a bit new but come up every now and then on the EE.

Not many bolt action .22's are as accurate as that CZ, so an auto loader matching it for accuracy is a big demand. A Volquartsen/custom 10/22 is the only one I can think of. Something like a CZ 512 will be accurate, but won't match the CZ 452/455 IMHO.

You can have a very accurate .22 semi... but it usually takes time and money and the right ammo... with semi's you are concerned not just about accuracy, as you would be with a bolt action, but also with function. Timing the bolt cycle is important unless, you don't mind spending time clearing jams, etc... I like semi's they are fun to shoot... even for groups on paper due to the fact that you don't have to break form... I have done three or four dozen builds, I don't think any cost under $1000, and some much more... but in the end most shot amazing groups, usually just before I sold them.

I have a TC R-55 in my safe, the heavy barrel Benchmark model. It's crazy accurate but only with standard velocity or subsonic ammo. I tried a few high vel ammo and accuracy wasn't out of the ordinairy, like other Match-grade barrel I guest.
I had a customized 10-22 but sold it and kept the TC as it's a much better rifle.
I don't use it tho, I always grab one of my bolt actions when going out, Not much into semis myself.
If you're interested in it, drop me a PM.

I have about $650 into my CZ452 and the Nikon scope on it. Even my old eyes can easily deadhead a bunny or a grouse. And I can trust it. NEVER jams and ALWAYS shoots what I feed it. It likes everything but is particularly fond of CCI Minimags. I always though of a 22 as a 50yd gun but CCI suggests a 100yd zero for their ammo. Even my 1022 loved it. A lot. My wifes Winnie 9422 is accurate and almost as accurate as my Marlin 39a. Depends on what you want too. Its so easy to get an accurate bolt. Not so much with a semi. Completely different too. But lots of fun too when ammo is available... I like the simplicity of a decently built bolt action rifle. Push a button and the bolt is in your hands. Dead simple. Semis not so much...
