Vet Bring Back Arisaka Type 99

A really good friend found this over the winter in Arizona. He knew I was interested and was good enough to hook me up.
Was purchased from the vets wife and son. All complete with the bayonet. It is a 4th series Nagoya Type 99. Matching to the dust cover! Mum, AA sights, and mono pod all intact. All screws still staked. Unit marked sling. This thing is untouched!! I haven't done a thing to it besides a light oil wipe. I have never wanted to collect japanese stuff, but a Type 99 with these features was always on my list.

I've always wanted to collect Japanese firearms but the lack of available and quality examples in Canada has always dissuaded me.

That's a great looking rifle! Certainly uncommon to see an untouched example with all of those early features!

Thanks Jeremy. I think it's the really light stock but I found it easy to get good photos. Not always the case.

That stock splice makes me wince. Must have had a lot of faith in the glue they used, especially in the climate, the bulk of these rifles were used.

Oh man, what a find!!!!!!!! Still with the Chrysanthemum marking AND the Dust cover!!!! With the intact Chrysanthemum I would hazard the guess that it was brought back before hostilities ended or that it might have been turned over to troops off of The Japanese Home Islands. the two Jap rifles my dad brought back, he was part of the Army of Occupation, had no Chrysanthemum nor did they have the noisy dust covers. I gather the dust covers are rarer than the Chrysanthemums, since they rattle and the Japanese soldiers would remove them and trash them.

The son of the vet said his dad captured it on Guadalcanal. But it's impossible to substantiate. I don't have the resources to figure out if this guy was there or not. The story wasn't used to get a premium for the gun, so maybe. But without proof just a story.

i think its a series one nagoya. its a 1940 very early model

The marking looks like a series 4 to me. But that's just using Google.
