Not sure whether this is the right sub-forum for gun cleaning topics, but don't see another that would be appropriate. So here goes--

Does anyone here use the VFG bore cleaning system? Instead of the more usual methods where you wrap a patch around a jag to clean the bore, with the VFG components, you screw a felt pellet onto the rod tip and run that through the bore. The pellets come in two forms: (1) softer pellets for light cleaning and light oiling of the bore and (2) coarser pellets with a very fine abrasive substance embedded in them for more aggressive cleaning, including carbon and copper removal.

I've recently purchased a new Schultz & Larsen switch-barrel rifle, and S&L strongly recommends this VFG process. Obviously, this is just a suggestion, but I'm curious about the pros and cons of the VFG system and about anyone's experience with it.

I use the VGF felts for .22 rimfire. I like them.

You need the appropriate cleaning rod adapter. For some bizarre reason the adapter I use for the 8/32 thread (the common "US rod" thread), seems to be chronically out of stock online. The adapters I use on my Tipton rods is the Pro Shot .22-6.5mm: https://www.nordicmarksman.com/VFG-Adaptor-Fits-832-US-Thread.html
When you find them in stock, and if this is what you want, buy a few.

There are other rod adapters (variety of thread types), that have a screw on cap that holds the felt on for scrubbing (back and forth without losing the felt). I have never used these. The Pro Shot adapter I listed above has a screw on thread for the felt, and no cap, and I can scrub with these.

The VGF "intensive" are the coarse felts. I like these for scrubbing the bore. I will coat these with some Iosso bore paste for added scrubbing power.

The soft felts I use for solvent, and rinsing out the paste after using alot of sprayed in Ballistol, and repeat with several single passes of clean felts to make sure all the paste and solvent is out. The soft felts can be slid onto the adapter for a single pass, and it pops off at the bore, no need to screw them on for how I use them.

The screw on cap adapters (which I have not used) I suspect may be better if that cap can compress the felt to keep it fatter so it contacts the bore better? With the open tip adapters and screwing on the felt, it can get squeezed and then it lengthens, so it may not have as good contact. I have never found the capped adapters with 8/32 threads to be in stock when I look for them.

I get my VGF felts and adapters from two great CGN sponsors: Tesro and Nordic Marksman. They come into and out of stock, so when you find them in stock, I recommend buying a year's supply.

Works great, easily portable with a pull through set up for out in the field, way better than a bore snake. I like em/fan.
