Not that one of these is necessary to clean a gun, but has anyone made or bought a product to hold their ar while broken open for cleaning? I realize that there are vices out there that will do the trick, but it would be nice to knock something together out of wood for cheap.... Has anyone tried this???

Yes, Sinclair,(a division of Brownells) has a number of doo dads for AR cleaning.To hold open the ar it is just a plastic spacer block a couple of inches long set up with pins to hold it rigid. But honestly, isn't it just easier to just take the upper off completely?
