For you Canadians to get a gist of what we face Downunder in the only State offering Water fowl hunting Seasons.... Copy an Paste from our "Gma" game management authority........ this is causing ALOT of drama down under Today


Arrangements for the 2021 duck hunting season have been announced today including changes to the season length, start times, daily bag limit and hunted species in recognition of lower than average bird numbers and breeding.
The 2021 season will start on Wednesday 26 May 2021 and will last 20 days, closing 30 minutes after sunset on Monday 14 June 2021.
Hunting start times will be delayed until 8:00 am for the first five days of the season from Wednesday 26 May to Sunday 30 May.
Hunters will be restricted to a daily bag limit of two birds and will be prohibited from hunting the Blue- winged Shoveler across Victoria, and both the Grey Teal and Chestnut Teal north of the Princes Highway/Freeway.

the drama is the decisions made by the minister do not reflect the facts in the field... il inform if any further things happen... should be a bit of noise about this , this week.
 
Always interesting to see / hear what is going on re: hunting in other parts of the world.

Who does the population monitoring / wildlife census work there Whelan? Is there much of a Game Biologist contingent, or mostly conservation / species at risk biologists?

Twenty days. Makes me feel pretty fortunate to live where I do.... though after an almost 4 month waterfowl season, driving around looking at thousands of geese in the fields, and thinking "why can't we hunt those geese right now?!?".
 
Whelenlad, enjoy your opportunities to hunt local ducks, however limited. But for loads of pure fun you need to come to Saskatchewan. Our limit per day is 8 ducks, and 8 "dark" geese AND 20 snow geese. Never quite managed all 36 in one morning yet, but came close and had a hoot trying.

Nah thats where this i getting controversial, Two ministers (one whos ordering all deer heli culls in nat park) an the other (greeny orientated) basically have Called these shots without science based evidence, That 'science based' part is Suppose to come from what we call the GMA--- but clearly with this result there hasnt been much (or we are hoping) hasnt been much discusion with GMA an this Season was announced due to public pressure to announce one... i guess its a bit of a long story
 
Same old story, the lefties get in, they hit us hard with a whole list of new regs, so we fight back and put in the right wing guys. But they don't quite put everything back to the way it should be. Then the left is back again going even further. Slowly but surely we are losing ground, both as hunters, and as gun owners.
 
Sure sounds like an attempt to discourage/dissuade AU hunters from participating OR taking up the sport... Remember kids, if there's no duck hunting, then there's no reason to have a shotgun for waterfowl is there... I guess we take up golfing? Knitting? Ugh

For me, the bottom line is ALL wildlife management decisions must be based on science...

Here's an example from right here in ONTerrible... The Provincial Gov closed down the spring bear hunt in 1999 purportedly to save cubs by preventing hunters from shooting sows. Note: Hunters DO NOT shoot sow's with cubs, nor is it legal to do so!. The prov gov did this to pander to the 'special interest groups' who were anti-hunting / anti-gun, DESPITE their own Biologists saying that there was NO reason to cancel the spring bear hunt! Just imagine being one of those Biologists!

A couple things happened following the cancellation of the spring bear hunting season in ON. Problem bears became more common... And boars that would have been harvested by hunters, killed more cubs! So after 15 years, the prov gov realized the error of their ways, and reopened the spring bear hunt in 2014 with special pilot projects in certain areas, and is fully reopening it this year. You hit on something there JYC!

IMHO it is way too easy to make up the rules as they go... This is enabled by our system where:

"Statutes are laws made by Parliament or the Legislature and are also known as Acts. They may create a new law or modify an existing one. Regulations are the rules that address the details and practical applications of the law. The authority to make regulations related to an Act is assigned within that Act."

Bottom line, a gov doesn't need to pass new law to completely mess with stuff like hunting regs... They already have the authority to amend the Regs as they see fit...

So, cancelling a spring bear hunt, despite your own Biologists advising you to the contrary, is as simple as JUST SAYING SO in the Regs... No debate, no negotiation, nothing!

On many fronts, we are one bad gov away from losing many of the things we take for granted. Scary 'eh!

Yeah mate i tend to believe this is the Avenue they are taking....

NAtional parks culling as many deer as possible to "eradicate" them all............. Why a need for Rifle in national park?
Duck season, Yeah 20 days 2 birds----- No one thinks that is worth it..... no one would do it next year.

unfortuntly they are al going on about "GO OUT AN SHOOT YOUR TWO DUCKS" as if it is a participation to show that People would still do it an or to get the numbers up for Data.... If everyone doesnt go, this can quickly become a "Well, Declining numbers in duck hooting... off the list" etc


worst thing is, the organisations here, like "the deer mob" arnt really pullin their weight.... we have internationals chiming in on their opinion with going forward an fighting it....
"Blood origins" have spoken out more than ADA...

National shooting council, eager to stick it to the polliticians - but we hear that often- but may be one to follow in future.

GMA 0 game management. have clearly from horses mouth SAID- THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY MANAGEMENT ON THE GAME- They manage hunters........ WTF
 
My hunting buddies from Mississippi had a crappy season! Only a few birds each. (3 all season) Birds stopped at big refuges and never made it to them. Sure missed being able to make it here this fall.
