Video: Black bear comes up to check on a hunter in a tree stand

Either nerves of steel or a bowhunter frozen under the weight of a heavily loaded underwear! Way too close for comfort.

Wow...how he didn't react is beyond me, like it was said above he must be a bowhunter because i can't see anyone not letting off a warning shot. Also i didn't think bears could climb a tree that fast!

he was bowhunting, you can see the bow hanging over his shoulder when he turns the camera on himself.

still though

some pooh would have been coming out!

Iffen that Bear was in my tree stand like that I would have given him a size 10 on the snout ...of course after securing the i-phone footage of course.
Yes Bears are curious critters and we do not know if he had some bait sent on his boots and thus following up the ladder, but again why risk trouble ?

It is a younger bear. Looks like a female. The smaller to medium size black bears can scoot up trees like nothing. The bigger and heavier ones have a harder time as the bark gives way under their weight depending on the kind of tree. But they too can still climb trees. Climbing a tree is no way to get away from a black bear. Even bigger griz can climb trees if they can get to the branches and use them to lift themselves up. Still a nerve wracking situation there to say the least.

YES!! I think if it were me it would be the first time in my life I would be grateful for having size 11.5 boots .....

That little bear scooted up the tree - saw and smelled what was going on, thought "oh sh!t" - and slowly went down saying, "nothing to see here, just carry on...".

This was "ripped-off" from youtube - I saw it last spring, but it's always worth another viewing.

" Published on May 19, 2013 This is video that I shot while hunting with Ben Cockell at Northern Alberta Outfitters in Ft. Assiniboine, Alberta, Canada. This is THE original video..."

WOW....I am amazed that the OP thinks everyone has a Facebook account. Guys here are paranoid about letting people look at their PAL, yet have FB account.

I wonder what a hard right hook to the jaw would have done. I imagine a bear needs most of its leg power to hold on to the tree .

Thinkin a lttle long about it ... That man could have be the first to kill a bear with only a knife ... At 10 plus feet of the ground

K-C, are you saying that the clip posted by the Op is the one and the same you posted?
I recall watching the video you posted and thought they looked similar, but the one posted today was a little blurry and shakey.
Anyways, as I said earlier I would not have let that bear get that close to me.
Either the boot to the snout or a bolt down the front of its chest...
Thanks for posting, both you and the Op.

I personally think something spooked that bear up that tree. Yes it does look like a yearlong, definately not some big old bruin. It saw and smelled the Hunter and said "Oh! Sorry, I see this tree is taken!" and went off to find a new one to climb.

I'm thinking we should send him a " new " pair of CGN issued underwear , I'm pretty sure he threw a pair away ..... Great footage !
