Video: Dissasembly old Remington 740 Woodmaster

Would anyone be kind enough to post a video of complete dissasembly and reassembly of a 740 Woodmaster? I'm having a hard time finding one.

Is a 742 identical to a 740? Those videos seem more prevalent.

I cannot help you with a video, but 740s and 742s are quite similar.
There is one part of the design that is a royal pain. To remove the bolt, you must remove the bolt handle. It is secured by a tiny splined pin, that has to be driven out. And has to be driven back in to reassemble. Don't remove the bolt if you can avoid it. And, of course, you must remove the barrel before the bolt can be removed.
 
Before attempting disassembly, push out the pins (easy), and remove the trigger guard. Flush out the action with an good aerosol cleaner. Dry and lubricate lightly. These rifles do get crudded up. Also, remove the forend, and clean the accumulated carbon fouling out of the gas system.
Remington autos are among my least favorite guns to completely disassemble.
But removing the trigger group and forend is straightforward and is usually all that is needed.
 
Could you drive the charging handle pin back in (reassembly) from inside the receiver instead of from outside of the rifle?
 
I drive it through from the outside, reinstall it from the outside.
Then there is the dust cover, which is retained by the cocking handle. The little notch in the dust cover is to provide access to the pin.
 
I can't believe that a 1957 rifle has a plastic dust cover. It blows my mind.

I'm not a fan of this series of rifles from Remington.

go to your local auto supply house and get an aerosol can of brake cleaner and flush the heck outta the bolt and action bars from the bottom of the action.
Of course one has to remove the trigger group to gain access.
Thats what I did years ago when I owned one for a couple of seasons.
Just did it outside and went to town on it.
Flushed it once or twice and reassembled with a light lube of oil.
Never had an issue, but I know this was not the answer to your quest ...
