Kinda new to the whole world of optics. Was trying out a buddies scope the other day, and found that the sweet spot where the I would get a clear picture was really small. If I moved a tiny bit right/left/front/back, I would get a lot of vignetting, or a white blurriness. Is that normal? Is it just a small exit pupil? Scope was a 3-12x44

Exit pupil will adjust depending on the magnification, so if you were cranked right up to 12 your exit pupil would be under 4mm. So possibly depending on the time of day. More likely though you are seeing the issue of not having long enough eye relief. Do you know how far back you were? Most scopes will run 4-3.5 inches. You may need more depending on your own eyeballs.

Yeah, we tried extending the stock, moving our heads back and forth, but it was really difficult. Seemed like if we moved a few mm in any direction, and we wouldn't have a clear picture.

Than unfortunately you're probably looking through a so-so scope. Always best to try out a handful at the store to find stuff like this out. Hopefully when you purchase you can find something that works better for you. :)
