Anyone loading .308 Win with 155 SMK's and VV N140? My go to load had always been 46.0 gr of Varget but that was getting scarce so I pick up 2 jugs of N140. Depending on what powder burn rate chart you look at N140 is the next in line of burn rate with Varget. However on some charts N140 could be 5 or more places faster or slower.
Vihta Vuori web site load data runs and few different loads depending on what 155 gr bullet is used. Velocity on their load data seem a little slow but their data could be out of a 20 in barrel.
My Varget load in the last rifle ran around 3000/fps out of a 30 inch barrel. New rifle with I am loading for also has a 30 inch barrel so I am looking for a good warm load that will be supersonic at 1000 yards, something with a MV between 2950-3000 fps.

My experience with N140 is that it is better than Varget. 45.5 to 46.5 in my rifles gets single digit SDs. The accuracy load must be found by testing in your rifle at 500 or more yards.

The accuracy load in one rifle is 3025 fps and 2950 in another.

I suggest you make ups some loads in 0.5 gr increments and explore 45.5 to 47 and do a 300 or 500 yard accuracy test and then go from there.

Just ran your 155's with VV-140 through Quickload with default settings for 308 Win. A max load should get you appx 2960 ft/sec. With your specs specific to your chamber results will change.

Thanks guys, seems what I was thinking (VV load data) might be a little lawyer proof and on the light side. I just hope to find a good load that will work in both my Millennium rifle and the new Barnard tube gun that I just built.

N140 has a bit less energy than Varget so a bit slower FPS for same load but still works good. I started using it a couple years ago, I like that the kernels are cut smaller than N-150 so its not a compressed load, but either one work good in 308 with 155's. I think I'll be loading 45.8gr of either one this year for my TR stuff. My rifle seems to like around 2930-2950fps.

I ended up loading 46gr N140 with BR4's, and looks to be right on 2950, sierra 2156C. Large primer would probably get another 20-30fps out of it.
Changing to 155.5's soon though so I might try to fine tune the load and compare N140 and N150 for it and different primers.
