25$ I just picked up;

full box of 308 150gr Winchester super-x
full box Imperial 'Silvertip' 180gr
half box of Federal 180gr nosler partition
roughly half box of mixed ammo

Question is what is Imperial 'Silvertip' and how can I confirm that my federal ammo is really nosler partitions?

Imperial silvertip ammo? I remember Imperial ammo very well, and I remember Winchester Silvertip bullets very well, but can't recall Imperial ever loading silvertips? A pic of the box would be great to jog my memory (just the sight of an Imperial ammo box brings back great memories!).

The old Winchester Silvertip ammo was great stuff and one of the most common/popular bullets of yesteryear. They were sort of a capped soft-point and seemed tougher than the "regular" Power-points. Quite a few guys I know used them (successfully) on moose in the .30/180gr. (it seemed like everyone used an "ought-six" or .308 for moose where I grew up).

Only way I can think of to confirm you have Nosler Partitions is to pull one, chuck it in the vice and cut it in half length-wise. Or you could X-ray one. LOL

Does the Imperial have a silver coloured plastic tip? That would be "Saber Tip" ammo. Something like Nosler's Ballistic Tip. I did some of the development testing on the Saber Tip in the early 60s. It worked well.

Thanks, your right, I read to quickly it is in fact imperial Sabretip 180gr....Full box, what is this ammo good for and how much does a box of equivalent ammo $go for$ today?

Packaging is identical to this but reads 180gr ST with Sabre Tip logo...

Interestingly I also have 3 cartridges which the head stamps read .308 Win 'Browning'. I never new browning manufactured ammo before!?:onCrack:

Browning brass was mostly made by Norma but there where some other manufacturers including Winchester and someone in Australia. Worth as much as most any other 308 brass.
The out of production "silver tip" Winchester ammo my dad bought has an aluminum tip instead of a plastic tip like most ballistic tip ammo.
