Vintage Leather Sling Care?

Anyone know of a good leather conditioner or "cream" that would be suitable for an 80+ year old Soviet leather sling?

It's a brown leather SVT sling that's a little stiff, want to return some elasticity to it and bring out a little bit of a lustre.
 
Ballistol.

It was made to clean preserve leather, wood and steel.

A little bit goes a long way on leather.

Several thin coats will emulsify the leather and make it supple again. Won't repair any of the cracks of course.

I've seen some people useing heavily diluted, non water based, flexible glues to repair or stabilize bad cracks.

Ballistol. Wunderful stuff. I've been using it for 30-ish years. Great on darn near anything (great for removing salts from bbls if you use any corrosive primered carts as well) Just starting to really take off here even though it was first made in 1917.

Anyway, I do also like Obenaufs oil leather treatment as well, especially for new sheaths, axe masks, etc. It would probably be a good choice for your sling as well. Works great on expensive cowboy boots as well.
 
Been using Capo Neatsfoot Oil for awhile, love it.
Can find it at Home depot.

You have to use meets foot oil after the saddle soap is dry saddle soap for cleaning only meets foot oil puts the softening oils back in the leather:)
 
I ran out to a shoe shop and found some "Mink oil" in a rattle can. Says here it's good for leather AND vinyl. Somewhat strange considering the very different properties of those two materials...
Need to wait to the weekend to head over to Cabelas for the Ballistol recommended here.

The oil used for lubricating sewing machines is Ballistol.

Cheaper to buy it at a sewing machine shop, under whatever label they sell it.

Larger facilities making up Drapes and using industrial Serger type machines buy it in one litre cans and even 25 litre buckets.

I was going to ask where to buy larger volumes as Canada Ammo only sells the 4 oz can and wipes now.
I'll have to check in the Edmonton area.
 
Google Ballistol in Canada and they will put you onto a company out of Toronto/Montreal. They sell it in one litre cans, 4.5 litre cans and 25 litre pails, as well as 275 litre plastic barrels.

Even the one litre can is a steal, compared to the four ounce bottles.

I bought 12 litres, just before the pandemic was looming. Still have 5 litres on hand, made excellent Christmas presents for some of the Gunny relatives.

Unless you want to pay through the nose to ship, your local sewing machine repair shop or industrial jobber is your best bet for usable quantities.

4 oz wouldn't last me very long.

Phoenix Range carries it and also Sights and Arms in St Albert. in 500 ml (I think) cans. Stop off at any dollar store and get a pump spritzer thing and they screw on the top like a Windex bottle. Like some other ppl mentioned I bought 4 litres at a sewing machine supply shop in Eastern Canada at a great price. Sorry Can't remember their name. A bit much, but I'm good for.....ahhh...ever, now. Great product.
 
Yeah I saw that Phoenix carries it on their web store. Never thought about Sights and Arms, I'll be near them later today and will stop in. Thanks.
