Vintage Marlin 455 bolt action Mauser

Why do you think it’s stainless? The bluing on the outside would seem to counter your assertion.
Just from what I've read. Kinda of a gray blue flat finish

1975 could be the serial #?
Awd Duck, let me know when you git tired of messing around with it.

I kinda felt an attraction to the rifle. Probably won't see it on ee:)

Nope, not rare. I think Lyman code SME for Springfield Mauser Enfield (model 1917 or pattern 14 not Lee). Steel sight as well. Probably get one to fit that for $125 or so.o

Good to know. Looks like it just screws on

I’d be anxious to see how some 165 gr sierra game kings or 150 grain ttsx shoot out of her.

Have to wait till next week to put a scope on.. waiting for bases. Only have the blue box 180 federal

Yes, and easily removed and touched up with some cold blue.

I might or not. Doesn't really bother me. One of the reasons I like old guns. Sometimes the mind imagination wanders thinking picturing of the rifle being used by someone in the past. Have an older Liege sxs that has made its way to BC. Probably walked a lot of fields.

I believe the barrels have twelve lands and grooves. Micro Groove barrels work very well in centerfire caliber and have been for years. I have one in 30/06 and it shoots real well. The FN mauser action is a good one. I'm not real wild about the Sako trigger but it works OK.

Good to hear that. I'm going to see how it shoots in a little bit. Got the scope on and bore sighted. Pretty close so didn't mess with the scope. Should the barrel be free floating or not that much of an issue. There are some rub marks on the barrel near the front of the stock.

Not totally disappointed. The 180gr jacketed soft points look like they hit sideways. The nice group of 6 was loose rounds I had. Pretty sure 150gr. This is at 45yards. Going to do some more scrubbing and try some different ammo

Thinking the sideways 180s are from not enough grip on the rifling on bullet to stabilize? The lighter bullet has less weight pushing straight ahead. Bought a box of 150 going to see how they fly on the weekend

Sideways bullets happen from there not being enough twist rate to stabilize the longer bullet. Without a close look at the barrel, I can make no determination. It is certain there is an issue.

Often a worn, fouled micro groove barrel will not spin the bullet at the desired rpm to stabilize it. The bullet slips through the rifling as much as it twists...

Give it a good cleaning and try it again as well as some 150 grain.

Ordered some sweet. From what I've read just scrubbing won't remove copper buildup. Think I'll save the ammo till I've used the sweet. Interesting about the length of the bullet and twist rate

After using Sweet's 7.62 dry patch and lubricate lightly with oil. Sweets leaves the bore susceptible to rusting if just left...

Wipeout is another excellent copper remover...

Thanks I'll do that. Was going to follow the sweet with hope solvent and then oil. Might be safer to skip the hopes solvent and just run a patch with oil? Read someones stainless steel barrel turned black from mixing different solvents.

From reading 1958 Marlin used 22 grooves for a few years. Pretty sure this rifle is 58 or 59 so probably has 22 grooves with a long twist rate.

Just checked it's a 5. Learned a few new things with this rifle and I'm thinking its probably going to be 150gr for it.

Haven't been able to find the twist rate. Read somewhere 1-38 but I don't think that makes sense. Wouldn't be one full twist
