Match Report

Scattered showers threatened, but we managed to shoot 9 different matchs without getting wet. The gentleman with the blonde #4 returned and kicked ass with some incredible shooting.

Actually, the level of shgooting from all was quite high, even though several commented they had never shot beyond 100 yards before.

I saw a Garand, 3 SKS, 2 m14s, and at least one #4.

I had a brain fart and left my camera at home, so don't have a lot of photos to share. But these will give you an idea of what happened. I am the old fart holding a target and looking pretty palesed with myself. I managed to win one match, the 100 yard mover, shot from the standing position. My SKS managed to shoot a perfect score.

Guys, your local provincial rifle association has use of million dollar military ranges. Get one of the rifle association CGN members to schedule a shoot for you. Here is the course of fire we have arrnaged for tomorrow. Targets are the Herman and charging hun targets (Figure 12 and figure 11)

Hello Ganderite,

Thanks for putting on the match! It was a great time all around. If you look in the first post in this thread, I'm the one with the Irish contract No.4 Mk.2 in the first picture (taken at the April shoot) and the one with the three bottles in the last pic (taken yesterday). This time I was shooting a different rifle:

It's a 1944 Maltby No.4 Mk.1 that I've owned for years. Somebody bubba'd the end of the barrel before I got it, but it showed great accuracy potential, so I added an old steel tubed Weaver K3 in Parker Hale mounts:

Glad I did because it shoots great! Almost like having a No.4(T) at a fraction of the cost! With the right ammo I can get close to 1" groups off the bench at 100 yards, but a military range is a whole new ball game, and that's where this rifle really belongs.

See you all at the next Vintage shoot!

Not to shabby, My friends dad has a Bubba'ed Long Branch with about an Inch hacked off (right after the Bayo lugs) That he offered to sell to me. I might take him up on the offer and make myself something along the lines of what you have there.

Just wanted to add my thanks again for setting up the shoot. I had a great time. I was really impressed with how well I could shoot with open sites out to 300 yards with my Swiss 96/11. It was a real pleasant eye opener.

Looking forward to future events if they can fit in the summer schedule. I will be attending the ORA introductory day on June (form and cheque in the mail today). I'll likely join if they will have me. :)

Rimfire, I was impressed with how well your rifle grouped. It was much better than anything else on the range. And when it came to the "skill" shoots, like standing rapidfire or snap shooting, you were the champ.

I had a rifle quite similar to yours in my bag, but opted to shoot my SKS instead. I wish I had noticed what you were using - I would have changed rifles.

I have a real #4T, but dodn't like to shoot it very often, so built a Pseudo #4T as a "shooter".

Your #4 was causing "oohs" and "aahs" in the butts, as we watched the groups form. Small and in the middle. I did not know a #4 would shoot so well.

I bought a old steel K3 with a tapered post as well, but when the rifle was made, decided to go modern. Bought a Cabellas scope 4-4 with an elevation drum calibrated in yards. So far, it seems to work well, but have not shot it much.

Next time.
