Vintage Rifle Shoot Report and Pictures

Weather was excellent at Winona. Not too hot and no rain.

As usual, a wide variety of rifles. This is not a real serious competition, so guys bring out a rifle they want to play with, as opposed to their rifle that might shoot the best.

By memory, there was : #4, #4 sporter, Mosin Nagant, Mosin Nagant sniper, STG44, K31, M14, AR15, SKS and a F Class target rifle.

We shoot the 100 stage from the standing. That sure takes the rifle out of the equation. Nothing like a standing Snap and Standing Mover to get the juices flowing...

At the end of the day, just about everyone had excelled at a particular match (I won the standing Deliberate with MN sniper) and took home a fine bottle of cheap wine.

This group was shot at 200 yards, Deliberate fire, with the #4 sporter, above.

Sorry I missed it, my (new to me AR) had arrived on Friday so I hadn't the opportunity to sight it in. I did however go to the range and she's all GTG now. I'll definitely see you at the next Winnona shoot.

It's the BD44, the new StG44 clone, shooting 7.92x33. I got it for my 60th birthday this year. Been a favorite rifle of mine since I was a kid, still am at heart!

The StG44 did pretty good for the most part. Standing at 100 I got 7 hits out of ten on the movers.

From 200 on I used my AIA Enfield No4 with a Leatherwood 4x16 scope. I came in first place at the 200 over all, getting 47 out of 50 in the snap. It's a very accurate rifle. Ganderite couldnt take it any more so he brought out his F class rifle at 300.

Just wait for the next one, I have a challenger for that rifle

100 yard standing movers is always fun & challenging.

It sure is. The 200 yard scores are usually better than the 100 yards scores, even though we shoot at the same targets. Standing vs. prone.

FWIW, the lead for 100 yards is about 2 inches. 200 yards about 6 inches and 300 yards is about a foot.

i use the 'ambush" technique. I settle my sights well in front of the mover, setting the correct height, and let the target come to me, firing with the right lead.

That would be great! I will definitely be there if my schedule allows.
Maybe you could add a 400m relay?
I'd like to see how these old rifles and old eyes would perform at the quarter mile.
