Now, I think it would be great to have a Vintage tang sight to go along with this fine old gale.(I have a 1906 so I now how the 1890 will handel) I've never used a tang sight before, but I know from what I've read thay work.:sniper:

Where would a guy fine one? How much would he pay? Does anyone have one thay would let go?:D

Thanks all.

From what I saw on their website it looks like Marbles and Williams will ship direct to you, probably Lyman too. I have bought directly from Williams before and have been in contact with Marbles recently and they seem willing to ship too. Marbles makes old versions still and some new stuff that looks nice too. Prices are on their website or you might get some action from Brownells too.

It's your rifle, and a lovely one at that, but I would make one suggestion if I may - if she hasn't already been drilled and tapped for a tang site, you'll find yourself making new holes in old steel. Dunno how you feel about that, but if it were my rifle, I'd try to keep it as stock as possible.

Just something to consider. Have fun!

Thanks for getting back to me guys.:)

Yes, I could get a new one and it would be alot easyer to find and cheaper, but I dont think it wouldn't "fit" quite right on an original 1890. It would be like mounting a scope on Winchester 1873.:puke: But an original sight, I think, would be very fitting.;) Like Mount Sweetness said, I'll just keep my eye on E-bay and the like.

Bogie - Ah, right. I forgot about Marbles and Williams. Thank you.

Skeetgunner - I gave Epp's a call but thay said thay dont really deal in that type of thing. I'll the other guy a call, but who is WGP?

Also, that picture is from the seller. I wouldn't want show you guys what my toe's look like.

Dark Alley Dan - Your right, I wouldn't want to do that to an original Winchester. However, I thought all 1890/1906's came drilled and tapped for a tang site from the factory?

Thanks guys.

Seems to me I can get an off the shelf tang sight for my 1894 made in 1900 so of all the sights any Winnie should be rigged for them already. That was the only upgrade sight available for nearly 50 years before scopes became common so I would really be surprised it you had to drill and tap any Winchester except maybe my newish 9422. There are several choices for my 1894 so you should be ok. Marbles especially and Lyman.

Epps was a guess, you never know what old parts are in a bin some where.

WPG is Western Gun Parts, Canada's version of Numrich.

Bogie - I see where you coming from, but I dont think I made myself very clear on what I ment about the older sights. I just ment I would rether find a older style sight vs. a new one because of nostalgia. No worry, eh!:)

Skeetgunner - Yes, I gave them a call as well, but no luck. Oh well.

So lets say I go to a gun show to find one of these, what should I look (like markings, model numbers, ect.) for if I come across someone selling sights?

Thank you guys.

Yea, mine isn't d&t. What a shame.

Likely the only different between a new sight and the older ones would be the finish. And the newer ones(some) will be windage adjustable. Not sure about the originals.
