Well guys I figure I gotta go see Mr Robertson about a new action stock combo. I'm not building for competition, I'm building a varmint rifle for ground hogs, I figure I want it in .223(cheap reloading),right hand bolt and port. So the big question witch will support a big honking barrell the best? and does anybody have any pro's vs cons on these 2 actions(don't care about price)?....Thanks guys Lee

If I was building another rifle it would be on a Barnard. If money was no object I would build 2 Barnards, one in .223 and one in .308.

I do not have a Barnard yet. I do have a Millennium action target rifle that I do like (improved RPA design). Ian didn't start bringing Barnards into Canada until after I bought my Millennium:(
Barnards have very tight tolerences and I like how the bolt is removed. Barnards seem to be the flavor of the week as far as target rifles go.

Either action

is flavor of the week. They are both aftermarket so they both should be good choices.

I personally would go with a Viper. My choice being is a Barnard is almost never spoken of in the Benchrest world where Stillers actions are. I am interested in Benchrest so that would be my choice.

Possibly more Barnards in the F-Class circuit?????????????????/

either is ok

is their a weight concern for resale

I would go with stiller as I have a drop port I am wanting to try next month

but either is good Ian will not steer you wrong

Speak to Ian he will steer you in the right path. He did for me. He asked me what I was looking for and then he gave me his opinion on several actions. Never felt pressured to purchase from him. He is a real gentleman. I picked up the Barnard model P action in .308 and a H&H stock. Unfortunately with all this snow I haven't had the time to shoot it. But I have been doing some dry fire with it. The action is solid! plenty of metal on that baby and comes with a fully adjustable trigger. You can also pick up the 20min of angle scope rail.As Ian said you can operate the action with one finger. It's true you can. Give him a call

no weight concerns in this project, I was thinking of going with a straight taper barrel, 1.1 inch muz/dia , may be 22-24 inches long. I figure that these actions are made for intended purposes, and I want the action to be able to support a fat barrel as best as possible without over stressing the action......As for all the praise for Mr. Robertson, He well deserves it and then some, He is an absolute wealth of knowledge on the shooting sports, And a true precision craftsman. Either way I go on the action I want to get 2 stocks from Mr. Robertson, one for bench work and one for hog shooting....Lee

The closest

I will be to one is when Neil from Jo-Brook firearms in Brandon gets his TAC 338 from Ian Robertson. He has been waiting for a bit. I would think it should not be much longer now.
