Hello all,
My family and I will be heading to Nova Scotia in the summer, probably July or August. We are bringing the father-in-law's ashes to his remaining family.

We will have some leisure time, so I was thinking of hunting. So here are my questions,
1)I have an Ontario hunting licence, what do I need to apply for as a non resident?
2)What seasons will be active? Small game?
3)Crown land that can legally be hunted on? Or other area's?
4)What have I missed?

I have to to get things in order, and want to be above board and legal.

Thanks,
Parts

P.s. No idea why"oars" was added to the topic line

There are no open seasons for game animals during July/August....except pheasant preserve hunting (which I know absolutely nothing about), starts on August 1st. To get a hunting licence you need to provide proof that you are qualified to hunt in another province.
Where in Nova Scotia will you be visiting? Fishing (Trout, salmon, striped bass) is pretty good in my area that time of year.

Going to be in New Glasgow area.
The father in law loved to fish the area as well. Do I need to do anything special to fish? In Ontario we just go into can tire and buy a licence.

Oar hunting is strictly forbidden here. Oars are cute AND endangered. LOL

Yep, pretty much stick to fishing. For hunting, even if something you wanted to hunt was open, you'd need a guide. But for fishing, yes, you need only buy a license, familiarize yourself with the regs (they'll give them to you with your license) and have fun. Striped bass fishing, or any fishing actually, IN TIDAL WATERS does not require a license, even for non-residents. Non-tidal waters you need a general sportfishing license. If you want to fish for salmon you will ALSO need a non-resident salmon license.
Cheers,
Dave

I live about 15 min outside New Glasgow on the shore. Nice spot. If you don't get to hunt....just driving around exploring the beaches and scenery will be nice.
Fishing in the tidal waters would be great fun. You will get mackerel, flatfish, striped bass, pollock....maybe a small shark.

Pictou Government wharf, fish mackerel to your heart's content. Medium rod with no more than three books and no jigging aloud. My ancestorial home is across the water in Pictou Landing!

Very nice..... That's where I live now....in the community after the sharp corner past lower road and over the hill...lol

Pictou Landing guy here as well. Not many Mackerel around in July, better off enjoying the heat among other things at Melmerby Beach.
