So I picked one up for my Redding 6.5 Creedmoor premium die. It already had a micro seater, but I grabbed a VLD one. I compared the two and by just setting the VLD into each one, the original stem seems to fit much better. Has anyone had experience with this????

most of the newer dies come with the VLD stem already installed, they sell it as a option so people with older dies can upgrade.
any chance you might be comparing apples to apples?

I have the Redding 6.5 Creedmoor premium die set also and load Various VLD bullets and am getting 1/2 moa or better results with the original seating stem.
See no need to try anything else in my loading regime.
Great cartridge!

Anything is possible, I did not find any marking on the stems themselves to indicate they were different, but the original one fits the bullet better but still not great as far as I’m concerned. With the original mic stem, I have got 3/8” groups at 100 with 143 ELDx, but I figured making up a Berger VLD load that I should use a VLD mic stem. I will do some more checking when I have some time.

Any chance you can unscrew your die and drop a 140 vldH in yours to see where the bullet contacts??

Sure, With Berger 140 hybrids tip to contact is .290, with 140 A-max it's .220, 130gr ELD-M is .310
Post your results with the new VLD stem....

i use a set of redding premium dies for my 6.5 creedmoor which comes with a standard micrometer seating stem. i recently purchased the VLD micrometer stem. i put them both on the table and inserted a hornady eld-m 140gr bullet in to both of them. they both have some wiggle but the VLD stem is noticeably tighter (standard stem wiggles around twice as much).

Thanks for replying, I will post my results when I get time with the 140VLD’s and the 143 ELDx and I think I have some 140 ELDM’s as well.
