I am very new to the m14/m305 platform but I just recently purchased a vltor stock from another cng'er and my rifle seems a tad longer than the vltor stock.. There is nothing wrong with the stock I can see, only when I put the rifle in the stock the metal U on the front of the stock is barely held in by the metal peice on the rifle. There is a space between the two and I am just wondering if this is somehing anyone else has experienced or do I have a lemon? I will try and get pictures up tonight, because its sort of hard to explain, but maybe someone knows what im talking about. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the VLTOR stock and stand to be corrected if I'm wrong.
The gap you are seeing is meant to be there, unless were talking about 1/4 of an inch.
The Norcs are built without love, hence the missing gap.
The front ferrule on the stock should not contact the front band of the gas assembly other than at the very bottom.
There should be a gap of 16 thou or so, so long as you can see daylight.
You can check the stickies, as it is covered in there.
Your new stock is built right, and I just recently corrected this error on an old Norc stock.

What are you worried about?
It's not going to explode if you shoot it. Give it a try and see how it works.
Gap should be minimum 16 thou, max 20 thou ..... So we're talking a gap you can barely see thru.
M14 fiberglass and wood stocks are designed to engage the gas system band at the ferrule. The ferrule ideally exerts 40lbs pressure on the gas band lip as the trigger mechanism is locked in.
So, yes any gap more than 1/32 of an inch is significant and absolutely an issue in my books.
I've got a pretty good background in m14 stocks, having manufactured them myself for a time.
Can you post us a picture directly from side with a soft light source behind and a tape measure to show distance?
And with stock off rifle, can you show us a pic of the stock, looking down from above , of the last 6 inches of the forstock?

Times like this when real good pics take the mystery out of a "problem"
While not "ideal" fit up, it's not a huge issue. Accuracy wise, I would not expect miracles as far as
stock affect. If you were taking steps to bed the action to that stock, you would want to remove thee ferrule and reseat it forward a bit before bedding the action.
Otherwise man..... She's certainly "safe" to shoot like that
