Hello everyone. I have a volquartsen 10/22 magnum snake fluted barrel. It has a compensator on it with four slits on each side of the barrel.(Its actually the barrel on the gun in my avatar) The comp. collects a whole lot of carbon build up. I soaked it in Butches Bore Shine, but was told that this is a harsh/aggressive cleaner that causes micro-scopic etching on the metal if left too long.
What does everyone else use to clean their comp? How do you do it(soak it for while in solvent?)
Thanks

Hmm, never heard of an etching problem. I normally soak my gun parts in hoppes #9 and I have never seen anything get etched. I would soak and then use a piece of cotton string also soaked in hoppes. How large are the holes? Are they large enough to fit a Q-tip into? If not you can also try to loosen up the residue with a toothpick or something similar. Obviously nothing metal as it will leave scratches. Good luck.

Find a buddy with an ultra-sonic parts cleaner, and drop it in. A karoseen or paint thinner soak and about 30-60min in the tank should loosen up all the crud.

If the above don't work, dunk it in gas overnight. Taping the SOB shut and running through a Foul Out system could help.
