I'm thinking of upgrading my extractor on an 870 to the Volq edge extractor
Is it an upgrade that's needed or just another part?

Thanks

I was interested in this as I was looking at one as well. Did you ever have feed back from anyone?(not here ofcourse)

I got a DLASK 14.5" barrel -- immediately started getting FTE, even after being polished/worked on. I replaced it with the volquartsen ejector and it works normally. Turns out combo of ejector being bad and slightly tighter than factory remington barrel = beaucoup issues

The fitment of the part is way better and there is way less play side to side.

I believe it's only a matter of time until the stock ejector wears out and you have issues, so I was planning on upgrading this anyways. But if you want to save money you could wait till you start having issues. Obviously wouldn't do this for a home defense shotgun or a outdoor animals protection gun ...

They're on brownells for like $25 usd or something + ship.

I have a spare volquartsen ejector for my rem 870 police I haven’t installed it yet cuz the stock one looks like machined steel but the volquartsen one looks moonchos better haha. On a gun for bear defence or anything serious like that I’d stick the volqauartsen in the 870. To make sure it’s reliable for sure

If you have a non-MIM extractor from factory (Included with all Police and WM 870s) you should be GTG.

If you have a MIM extractor (Express and such) I would consider replacing it with an OEM non-MIM or a Volq.

I think Volq's pricetag is very steep. Although a non functioning firearm aint worth much eh

I wouldn't consider $25 USD very steep, yeah it's a piece of metal, but it is EDM machined.

Just the reassurance that I know I won't ever have FTE due to the extractor alone is worth that, if not more. If I need to shoot something in the face in the middle of the night, I don't want to have to worry about FTE

Let me reiterate: I’m not referring to their MSRP on Volq’s website, but to the price it’s being sold in stores around here.

Can’t find it any where around me under 50$. Then add taxes and shipping (if its the case) and your extractor now costs 60-70$.
But if you can get one for 25$usd, it’s a good purchase for sure.
