Installed a VQ extractor yesterday and took the rifle out for a test drive today.

Let me tell you, I was not impressed. The VQ extractor basically STANK.. Hung up every 2nd or 3rd round. :bangHead:

Going back to the stock one RIGHT NOW.

I know a lot of folks have "upgraded" to this type of extractor, and have been happy with them, but the one I got must have been made on a friday afternoon.

I've heard a few others on rimfire central mention the same problem I've had. May be a bad batch out there.

Just FYI

Cheers!

Wierd, I put one in my Krinker and it performed excellently. Without coming off stupid but , any chance it was installed wrong or even wihtout the spring ? I know the one i had bought had to be de-burred just a tad. What kind of ammo were you using?

Is it possible that some of the steel on your bolt is not allowing the extractor to travel all the way? If not, try the original spring - it should definitely fit and perform better than factory.

Either way, both my 22/45 and 10/22 have them and they are 10 times better than the factory ones; they grip the rim tight whereas the factory ones have play.

Good luck sorting it out :)

Took 'er apart and put 'er together again 10 times. Still fits the same. The edge of the extractor doesn't even clearance the bolt. It looks like it should work, but, it just doesn't.

I actually think it's just a bad batch. I've been around weapons long enough to know how to put it together, so I really think this is kind of an anomaly. But, as I've heard other complaining of the exact same problem, I thought I'd pass it on.

As I said, just FYI for those thinking of buying one. Not a bash on the VQ company itself. I know others have had good success with this mod.

I have one in every 10/22 I own and I have not had a problem. My guess is that the extractor hook is getting caught on the edge of the bolt.

Well, my experience is identical to 2 others on another rimfire site I go to. So, it might be a bad batch. The edge of the claw sits flush with the bolt, and does not extend over the side at all. So, it cant work worth a damn that way. I'm trying to determine if it's just the way this batch is made (which is what it sounds like to me).... As I said, I've tried to put it in the bolt several times and it always fits the same. Whereas the stock one drops right in the way it was supposed to fit. Gotta be something with the extractor itself I think.

Will keep you posted on any info I come up with. :)

Mine had the problem, but I knew how to deal with it.
You need to get a cheap file (hobby store) because the bolt steel will destroy it. Then...

It takes some muscle and time, but you file-down the thin area where the extractor rests (the thin wall which separates the extractor area from where the rim of the cartridge sits); this needs to come down slightly because it isn't allowing the extractor to travel the full distance. This is why it isn't working.

It's worth it. But don't do it unless you are comfortable with what you are doing. :)

I file down the groove on the bolt with one of those diamond hones and cleaned it up. Ruger sent me a new bolt cause the original one did not extract either and i modded the replacement bolt so it would work. On the vq replacement bolt it is pinned in place instead of the groove pressed on the bolt.
