did it today. No instructions suck. Found this on the Internet:

Extractor:

I have to say that on my VTR the extractor only came out when I pushed a very small screwdriver into hat tiny hole on the underside and pushed the extractor up and pulled it out at the same time.

Hammer:

Those are just help links from other shooters, so I guess it's OK to hotlink, thanks

.

Have fun.

new parts

I agree, the new parts are a pain in the butt, but well worth it. I had mine out to the range last week and it was a tack driving lead spewing machine! Fed it a brick of cheap whinechester without problems till the end. Only needed a little lube and she was ready to go agailn!:dancingbanana:

i've been pleased with rimfiresports too- got a Marlin magazine from them WAY cheaper than i could have in Canada.

Another thumbs up to Rimfire Sports.

Got my Remington 597 parts ,extractor, hammer and several spare mags in about two weeks. Great service from below the border.

Now that HawkTech no longer offers free shipping to Canada, Rimfire Sports is clearly the cheaper option.

ya a whole 10.00

And when you take into acount the hammer is 8.00 US more at Rimfire you save a whole 2$ US The reason that I went with Hawktek is that I have not herd one thing negative about them tother then the shipping fee. Rimfire on the other hand got a lot of negative posts at the time I was buying and also did not have the extractor in stock.

The shipping is actually $15. Hammer and extractor are $52 combined, for a total of $67 at HawkTech. It's $56 at Rimfire Sports. I suppose some people would rather pay an extra $11 for the same product, but I won't.

FWIW, I ordered my hammer and extractor from HawkTech but that was before they started charging for shipping to Canada. I never got any type of order confirmation after placing the order, the damn thing just showed up three and a half weeks later. I was on the verge of calling them to cancel the order.

I got the rig from Rimfire Sports. It came in good time and I paid about $52 in total.

Well, I can't believe Remington even sells that gun without those parts. I wrote them an email telling them to take a page out of VQ's book. The gun is like a whole new gun. The new hammer makes the trigger feel great! I accidentally fired a little early at some crows when I wasn't used to the trigger.

X2 on that

Bottom line is that if you look on line you will find that people upset with both retailers at one time or another. The only thing that counts is that we can get these parts from the states and they are a simple wicked upgrade to the 597

Can't argue with you there. The hammer really is a must-have for any kind of 597. Makes you wonder why Remington didn't just make it like that out of the factory and charge an extra $30 for the gun...it'd still be cheaper than a 10/22.
