Hey guys~was looking at some (higher end) Vortex scopes last night...the dealer had only had their tactical stuff though. I'm looking for a scope in the 15-16x power range, sub-$300, and came-up with the Crossfire 4-16x50. They didn't stock them, but figured they could get one quickly if I was interested. Any thoughts on this scope? Anyone here use one? Opinions?

I recently put a gently used Millett TRS-1 on my Savage .223 and while it was a little more than $300, I REALLY like it. Same power range I'm looking for, but a big/heavy thing...and I'm mounting the new scope on a .22WMR.

I did look around online last night...found at least one instance of catastrophic failure on a centerfire, but Vortex's awesome warranty dealt with it. Not looking for trouble though.

Thanks for taking a moment to respond.

The 6-24X50 Crossfire I have tracks perfectly and is far clearer and brighter than the Bushnell 3200 5-15X400 it replaced. I can shoot sub 1/4 MOA groups with this scope on both my .223 T3 Varmint and T3 lite .270win.

I have a couple of the Vortex Crossfire scopes. One is the same as what your looking at and I like it for it's application. I think 16X is about as much power as this quality of glass can handle though, so I wouldn't go any higher.

Vortex has a good quality scope for a decent price and a great warranty, although I have never had need for it other than operator error.:redface:

Hey guys~thanks for the replies. I've read plenty of good reviews of the Crossfires....but the bad ones are, as mentioned in my thread starter, REALLY bad. I did read about some Crossfire 6-24x being sold online for $99 in the US which is alarming. The manufacturer, Vortex, and the dealer all made money on that $99 scope....not sure what to think.

That's what it looked like to me;

Clearance? Either way, doesn't inspire confidence.

stay clear... you will be out of whack within 10 shots of sighiting it in... save up another 200 bucks and get a quality scope...

It also says 70% off-limited supply. This makes me think it is discontinued and discounted to clear out any remaining inventory. I checked the Vortex Canada website and they do not even show a 6-24x50 in a 1" tube, the only one listed is a 30mm. So either it is a typo or an exclusive.

When I purchased my starter precision rifle, it came with this scope in question. I LOVE it. Tracks well, not too heavy IMO. and is very clear compared to any scopes I have used before. And it looks purty, some people I know said "it makes it look like a sniper rifle ( :rolleyes: ;) ), are you allowed to own that?" PERFECT!

They'll fix it if it loses zero. Vortex is great for their warranty.

That being said, I think you'd get substantially better optics and performance from their step up: the Diamondback series, and a step up again in the Vipers (which is what I use)

Yeah that sucks for sure. But I have had that happen with other brands as well, and also seen it first hand in scopes costing a lot more. That is why for anything harder kicking than a short action standard caliber, I always use the Diamondback or Viper series of scopes.
