I was on the fence for about a year of finally investing in some good glass. Finally I decided to pull the trigger on one of VORTEX's HST scopes. Specifically the 4-16x44 VMR-MOA.

This scope is compact and has a weight that nobody will complain about, The glass is clear and crisp with little distortion around the reticle. The turrets are audible with distinct clicks that make adjustments very easy to feel and hear. Scope tracking is dead on with a generous amount of adjustment, 75 MOA to be exact. The 4'' eye relief offers a great amount of adjustments for multiple shooters.

The reticle is a retrofitted mil dot system. The VMR reticle is a MOA hashed reticle with matching turrets. Vortex also offers the same package in MIL adjustments.
The HS-T line of scopes is a second focal plane optic, meaning the reticle is the same size throughout the entire magnification range. The reticle is only accurate at full power.

The scope turrets have revolution indicators etched into the turret base, allowing the user to see how many turret revolutions have already been dialed. The turrets also have a fiber-op zero indicator allowing the "0" on the scope to be seen in low light conditions. There is also another finer-op on the magnification ring.

This scope comes with a CRS Zero stop system which allows you to set up a turret stop when the optic is zeroed. Preventing the user from loosing his zero from miscounting turret revolutions. The CRS Zero stop system uses brass shims to give a precise zero stop. These shims are also extremely easy to install and swap out. The magnification ring is pretty stiff along with the parallax adjustment, which is my only complaint about the scope. Vortex also offered a 6-24X50 version if the 4-16 isn't the magnification range desired.

All in all im glad I chose this optic, it works well for what Im using this rifle for. Vortex offers a great warranty and a great product, anyone who is undecided on a Vortex product should just go for it.

Cool. Thanks for the info.

Vortex's site says its 0.045 mils thick.

I also have this scope and I'm pretty happy with it at its price point. My only dislike is the glass. Its a little foggy, but that seems to be standard with the vortex product line. All in all its a good scope and will do what its asked, and as long as you don't have a peek through nicer glass you will be happy.

Great review. I'm a huge fan of Vortex. I have several, red dots, binos , hd spotting, diamondback on my 300wm for hunting , and a 6x24x50 PST illuminated MRAD FFP for the 338lm. Fantastic value for the money!

This exact scope was what I used to win the BCRA service rifle championship this year. Don't be afraid to stick it on an AR. I use the ADM recon mount. 2" offset I believe. Mines in MILRADS. If I manage to get out to NSCC in Ottawa this year this is what I will be shooting. Great little scope with pretty good glass for the money!

Thanks for the write-up and you've covered a lot of ground that will provide useful information to potential buyers.

1.As a general comment there is a need for shops to have all their staff trained so that they are all more informed on the advancement on scopes and what various scopes are capable of doing.
2. This will help more customers so that they can decide on what type of scope they they require for their applications.
3. The difference between First Focal Plane(FFP) and Second Focal Plane(SFP. Advantages and dis-advantages of both reticle systems.
4. What happens when one uses different scope powers (SFP) to shoot at a target.
5. Does a given scope company provide access to software programs that will show the reticle subtensions for each power for a given cartridge.
6. This will require that sales staff go and get experience with both systems.
7. Typical price points for each reticle system.
There may be some other factors and others may add to this.

Nice work - It is reviews like this - where people take the time to do some writing and add-in some good photos - that really enhance the experience of visiting this website. Again, many thanks.

The are warne tactical medium height permanent 30mm rings. In the photo, which is older; I had the scope in Weaver Tactical 30mm rings that were also medium height.

Looks like different rings in the last picture? Curious what they are and the height for clearance of the rear sight. Just guessing Burris medium height?
