If I had time, I'd take a picture, but I have a spare barrel here in my hands. There are threads out near the muzzle, then after that (nearer the breach) another section about an inch long that isn't threaded. There are three flutes (channels) down the length of the threaded and smooth section of the barrel I just described. Into those flutes the stock flash suppressor slides and is indexed. If you thread a muzzle break (custom made to fit the Norinco metric threads) and just screw it into those threads, you leave open the flutes. Maybe it spits flame and muzzle blast right back to you, or it doesn't, but that doesn't seem like a good scenario to me. You certainly wouldn't want to screw a muzzle break on like that, it would blast right back at you down those grooves. A flash suppressor, not sure what would happen, but I'd certainly want to have safety glasses on.
