Hi all,

I have an opportunity to get a great deal on a regular Bushnell, Leopold, vortex or maybe even a zeiss scope and wondering which brand you would recommend and which scope? I know there are many others that might be better, but just looking at these brands for now. Thanks.

You need to give us much more info.

What caliber is the rifle,

What distances/type of shooting do you plan to do?
Tactical/hunting/varmint/benchrest target/informal plinking.

Are you going to hunt with it,

Whats your budget?

With more information like this, we can give you huge amounts of quality advice from many experienced members.

I'd personally stay away from Bushnell, I like my Vortex and Leupold. Cant comment for Zeiss. But also depends on what models you want.

I almost thought this guy was credible.......Until I noticed he was a habs fan. lol

I have a bushnell Elite and plan on buying another. I don't know much about scopes other than what I have looked thru in the stores and friends. I suggest that the OP go to a store and look thru a bunch. Lots of lovers and haters online for all brands. Let your eye and pocket book be the judge.
I just looked at a few redfield's because of recommendations I found online and the glass was complete crap compared to my Bushnell. like I said, your eye wont lie.

If youre looking for LR optics and I assume you are based on posting in this forum, your eye will have a hard time discerning between good and bad in the store. Have a look through Tomochan's post on optics for new shooters (stickied in this forum) Pick your use and pay as much as you can realistically afford. There are very few good but cheap scopes for LR shooting, you really get what you pay for. I have noticed alot of failures reported with Vortex optics and the few Ive owne did not feel like a good buy for the price paid to me. They have great customer service but personally I think thats the least they can do. Haagen_Dazs reported their internals have issues when elevation is cranked up. Bushnell have great internals and good glass for the money, Leupold has always been excellent but more recently there is alot of good and even better competetion in their price range. Again, read Tomochan's review.

I have found that the Leupold is usually one of the lighter Scopes and very clear. I also enjoy my Bushnell's. The vortex is also nice but the cross hairs are a little thick. Can't comment on the Zeiss as I just picked up my first one and have not put it on a rifle.

Of the three choices, I would buy Leupold, but only if it was the right scope design for the type of shooting you want to do. Bushnells are good cheap hunting rifle scopes but that leave much to be desired - in my book - for anything else. Reticles look more like the grill off a Dodge Ram. I quit buying cheap scopes for presicion shooting a long time ago.

Hi all,

I have an opportunity to get a great deal on a regular Bushnell, Leopold, vortex or maybe even a zeiuss scope and wondering which brand you would recommend and which scope? I know there are many others that might be better, but just looking at these brands for now. Thanks.

Does Zeiuss come with lightning stick? But anyways i have tried all 3 and like the Vortex the best outta 3. They all work fine except few Cheaper bushnells... but its all how much you want to pay for an optics and how far you want to reach with it..

Depending on how much your willing to spend, a good LR scope to look at is the Bushnell 3.5-21x50 HDMR. Supposedly the second gen will be coming out late January 2013. FFP, 10 mils/ rev 28 mils total, zero stop locking turrets, 34mm tube, tree style milling reticle. I'm definitely waiting for one. Supposed to be around $1949 MSRP.

They all will work.

It is a matter of finding the tool for the job and the right tool to fit you(what looks best when you try the scope)

I could say they are all junk or all great , it is up to your eye to decide.

For my eyes the Zeiss are what I use now and I have tried/used all those brands.

I was trying to get a quick post in on the phone and didn't include as much as I should have. Its for my 308 savage,to replace the Bushnell 3200. I don't hunt, so this is strictly for pursuing LR target shooting. I'm thinking a MOA reticle would be nice, any feedback would be great, thanks for the info so far.

Scrap Bushnell or Leupold - the world has past them by.
Vortex or Trijicon - depends on what you need.

If you are Daddy Warbucks - then toss Nightforce into the mix

In the sub-$1500 range I would look to the Vortex Viper PST (the issue that supernova mentioned isn't so much of a problem as a design feature that you need to work around) or the Bushnell HDMR. If you're going to bump that to $2000, then NF would be my pick. If we could get the SWFA SS here that would be my choice in the sub-$2000 price range.

I have leupold mark 4, Bushnell elite, nf nxs, Zeiss conquest and sightron SIII. For the money I will go sightron for target shooting

I did the excersize. I told the gun clerk to grab a Leupold, a Zeiss and a Swarovski and bring them outside the shop where visibility was a little longer. I personally could not tell the difference between them for image quality.

I still bought the Zeiss and Swarovski but if money had been an issue I would have gone Leupold without a second thought.

The better test would be to take them all outside at last light. (may not matter to you if its not a hunting rifle)

For your purpose get a Nightforce BR model or a Sightron S111 model. They are simple better for your purpose.
I have had Sightron , Bushnell , leupold Swarovski , Zeiss , Schmidt and Bender .

I can tell you a $900 Sightron is much more reliable, tracks better and has a sharper image than a $2000 Leupold but the Leupold has better contrast. The Leupolds are notoriously unreliable and they still don't track straight. My friend has had to send every single one of his three Leupold's( Mark 4 and Vari x 111s) in for service at least twice each and one a third time. They do however have fantastic service from what he tells me.I have had a few leupold's and never had a problem with them.

I have a Vortex Viper PST 6-24 on my 300 RUM with the MOA reticle. I don't find it to be thick. Scope tracks perfect killed two deer this season one at 510 yds and one at 724 yds. For a $800 dollar scope I think it is hard to beat. It is not a NF but I can have three PST's for one NF.

X2 since most glasses are about the same in perfect light condition but it starts to differ in lower light resulation. Thats when the higher $$ optics tend to shine and brightens the surroundings.

but not all the top $$ perform better. As canuck525 mentioned, if you want the bang for your buck, SIII LRMOA are awesome compairing to the NF, Zeiss and other top quality optics. I too love the leupold for 3x9 hunting scopes but when it comes to LR or benchrest, I will lean on NF and SIII.

as far as PST's go, which i own and is mounted on 340 Weatherby works great but with that price range i can get the better optics for longer range. SIII wins hands down for LR than PST for my self.
