Vortex or Leopold or Bushnell ?

I was trying to get a quick post in on the phone and didn't include as much as I should have. Its for my 308 savage,to replace the Bushnell 3200. I don't hunt, so this is strictly for pursuing LR target shooting. I'm thinking a MOA reticle would be nice,any feedback would be great, thanks for the info so far.

how much do you want to spend and how far are you shooting? What kind of target shooting ? When you say it's for your savage - which model? I have a bushnell 6500, Zeis, Swarovski, sightron III, vortex viper pst ffp, and a leupold. All mine are moa/moa so that way I can keep everything straight in my head and I don't have to remember more conversion info - however their are a lot of positives about going with the Mil system. For target shooting I like my sightron and viper but I know people who like their bushell tactical, leupold etc. if my skills ever get beyond my rifle, reloading and current scopes and i find a bunch of extra cash I will spring for a nightforce or better yet a S & B .... But right now I can still blame any inaccuracy on my equipment.

X2 since most glasses are about the same in perfect light condition but it starts to differ in lower light resulation. Thats when the higher $$ optics tend to shine and brightens the surroundings.

but not all the top $$ perform better. As canuck525 mentioned, if you want the bang for your buck, SIII LRMOA are awesome compairing to the NF, Zeiss and other top quality optics. I too love the leupold for 3x9 hunting scopes but when it comes to LR or benchrest, I will lean on NF and SIII.




as far as PST's go, which i own and is mounted on 340 Weatherby works great but with that price range i can get the better optics for longer range. SIII wins hands down for LR than PST for my self.

cannot say that I agree , SIII is only OK in my book.

Saying Bushnell, leoupold or vortex simply doesn't work, but I think I know what u r saying. It"s like saying Ford, Ston Martin or Ferrari, to an extent. I assume u know that a vari-x1 leoupold is marketed as one above Simmons and is out there so u can say u have a Leupold on ur gun. Look thru it. The vari-x lll is 500 times superior, same as the latest VX series. Bushnellmakes the Banner series, worse than open sights IMO. They also make Elite 6500 series which is night & day above the banner. Vortex are relatively new kids on the block, but with something to prove, again in my opinion only. I have used the Leoupold vari-xlll for many years very successfully and truly admire the way they stand behind their products....you think something is wrong, send it to Okotoks Alta and they make it right...no Q"s, no hassle, no BS. I am just completing a new build and after comparing the Loupold 4 series to the Vortex PST I had to make a change. The FFp PST Viper won out for options/functions per $, again IMO only. If ur shooting squirrels, what ever. If ur a deer hunter that shoots in trees u don't need 16 power but I would get a 50mm objective for enhanced light gathering. Some say that would be too much weight or bulky...I am not one of those people. Same said for low-light conditions on a prairie. I've had hunting buddies drive across the field to pick me up, when my scope excels. I look thru their VX-ll as they say holy s$&t looking thru my vxlll. As others have mentioned, have a look thru them all. Know your limits, guns limits and planned usage of the gun/scope and make ur decision from there. In a sentence, buy the best damn scope u can barely afford.

for target im a die hard Night Force guy but i rock a few VX3's on my mountain rifles because there so light. I hate bushell because i still have an image stuck in my head from back in the 80's when they were on rifles at KMART , but they sure have come a long way from then. My dad has a new elite tactical and ive seen him pound iron at 1200yrd's no prob so .... i think all the brands you've thrown up will pretty much do the job. Just depends on your budget and what you like.
