I have just purchased the Vortex Viper PST 1.25 x 4 and some 30mm extra high vortex rings from Blueline.

During mounting with these rings it is apparent that there is nowhere for the front ring to mount properly. :D Being this is my first AR 15 scope mounting, my question is this:

Do I need to use cantelever AR15 specific mounts?? I would like to confirm my thoughts with some seasoned optics / AR guys.

Like a burris leopold or vortex that hang forward over the handguard slightly.

I know this must be a qustion asked before but please kindly help me out. The two gentlemen at the store recommended these rings which tome clearly will not work.

Thank you kindly

Without posting a pic, google LaRue or ADM(easier to get) and take a look there recommended AR mounts. If the rifle has a "continuous" top rail which incorporates the handguard, then rail "real estate" shouldn't be an issue.Maybe describe the rifle a bit more? I like to get the lowest rings possible, however in the AR rifle the scope's objective lens is the issue, since you need to clear the rail.

I have a core 15 piston upper that does not have a quad rail or monolithic upper

It has the "standard" so to speak carbine hand guard which has no rail on top as it is round

Good rifle, I have a AA piston upper. very reliable and well made. Take a look at the ADM mounts. They are easier to get up here, and should provide you with a solution.
What's the "tube" size on the Vortex?. If you have the coin the SPUHR cantilever mount is another excellent option.

ADM 30mm Recon mount. Done. It will be the correct height for a low mag optic.

Larue is too pricey (if you can find it). ADM is high quality stuff and available all over Canada.

Traditional rings for an AR are not ideal.

Thanks for the fast info everyone.

It is a 30mm tube size i think thats what you mean :D

There is a set of burris "AR" mounts in town. I am looking to shoot tomorrow. Does anyone love or hate burris mounts?? before I drive all the way out to get em :)

ADM.. perhaps i wasn't clear....

I hear ya and I am browsing for them now online. I do also want to shoot tomorrow if possible. I am new to the optis side of things. And the Burris ones appeared of good quality. If they are a crappy brand please let me know. Cause I really have no idea about these mounts. :D

Edit also where should I look online for ADM ? To save some time

Again thanks I appreciate the help line that this forum is.

I use Burris rings on my .22cal, so take your time and buy good quality rings, or wait out and get the ADM mount. Buy once Cry once, LOL

Vortex also markets their own version of the ADM mount. Well, it IS an ADM mount (the bottom half at least), but the rings aren't 'machined out' like my ADM mount above.

I think the Burris mounts are light years behind the ADM in terms of quality. Yes ADM is pricier, but in my opinion, well worth it.

You can find ADM mounts all over. OST is highly recommended. They come up in the EE all the time as well.

Recon means 2 throw levers - Scout means one. I have both types and even the single throw lever is more than strong enough.

ADM all the way. Just as good if not better than Larue (my opinion), and actually available in Canada.

So I went out to Reliable in Vancouver and bought myself the Leupold 30mm mark 2 integral mounting system mount.

visually appears machined very nicely. and did not have any "extra" un necessary metal on board to weigh the gun down. nice little lean set of mounts.

I now fullfilled the need to shoot tomorrow and stayed on budget. It really was important to get this mounted this weekend because this is one of my only long weekends I have been off in a long time. AND EVEN BETTER They have PMAGS and I bought 6. A great day

How much for the Leupold mount if you don't mind me asking. Another option over the Burris mount.
