I passed on a moose last season I cow called one in but it took its time coming in and I ran out of daylight. I passed up on it because with the low light I thought it was farther than what it really was. Returned the next morning with full daylight and realized the distance and definitely could've made the shot. I pace out or measure 100 yards when sighting my rifles in. Also the GF got her PAL and would like it to practice judging distances with her on different objects.
Anyone have experience with this range finder? Need something i can depend on, reliable, durable, and consistent and accurate range finder and came across a couple options. I've read up on this and the leupold models and decided the vortex is better priced also the leupold 1000 has been discontinued and I believe is replaced with the 1200 but for more money. I can still find the leupold 1000 on different websites but with no discounts and to be honest I don't want a discontinued model for full price.

I just picked one up to replace a crappy bushnell from like 2005 that would be lucky to range 200yds and no longer turns on 70% of the time, $300 USD taxes in down at Cabelas in the US when they had a sale. I was researching a long time price/functions/quality what sold me on the Vortex was the lifetime warranty on this thing when most other brands including Leupold only have a 5 year warranty. Also the Vortex is waterproof unlike others. I haven't used it in the field yet on animals and only around my neighborhood and out and around. I got a lucky reading of 1140 yds shooting it across a lake, must have reflected off something to be that lucky, I have ranged tree lines out to 500-600yds, my personal max range for shooting any animal is 300 yds and this thing will easily do that so it fits the bill for me. It had trouble getting any sort of reading in fog but I think any laser rangefinder will have trouble in those conditions just the nature of the beast.

thanks for the replies, I just placed an order for the vortex. Just like you I dont need to range far out distances just realistic hunting distances so I didnt want to pay extra for a range finder that will go farther then ill even use. My first range finder and judging by the warranty ive been reading about hopefully my last
