I’m not a Vortex fanboy or anything, but sometimes they really impress me.
I just received my new razor hd 4000 rangefinder from Prophet River yesterday. This thing is pretty impressive! It feels like quality in the hand. Made in China, but you wouldn’t know it. It’s heavy and solid. Magnesium framed.
I upgraded from a lower mid level sig but I’ve fondled most of them in the store quite a bit.
My results:
-Anything within 1500 yards instantly. Trees, road, rocks, anything.
-reflective small targets out to 2000+. I was up on a tower half surrounded by ocean and could pick up buoys and floats approx Size 3’ at 2350 yards. 2’ signs at 2200 yards.
-2’ steel plate at 1960 yards
-houses and cars at 3500 yards. I actually got a ferry in the bay moving away from me at 3460 yards.

The optics are typical Razor HD quality and the 7x 25 is just right. I know they’ve taken some flak for their beam divergence being larger than some, but my results were accurate and repeatable.
$700 and lifetime warranty!
You can’t go wrong with anything in the Razor lineup.
And a shout out to Prophet River! Best service in Canada hands down!! I can’t say enough about my dealings with them over the years.

How about close in accuracy,,, to 10y to 50y range??! I’ve been eyes these but a knock on the 1500’s were close in they could be 5 to 15 yards off and I’d like to dual use for bow hunting and rifle/mountain hikes.

Was accurate from 5 to 200 as far as I was concerned. I didn’t go pace it out, but the readings were all repeatable. A couple of known distances around 425 came back right on. It’ll see further than you can in low light. I don’t think the laser is affected by dark. Bright sunlight didn’t seem to be a problem either. I think that’s more of a laser thing than a Vortex thing anyways.

One point to make, I have handled at least half a dozen of them in store and have not had one where the reticle was clear. I wear glasses (-2.5ish) and have astigmatism, and that reticle and other info flares like crazy. None of the other rangefinders had this severe of an issue. I imagine it’s some limitation of the technology they’re using to project the info, and it all flares out much the same way that a red dot does. Keep that in mind if you wear glasses or have astigmatism.

I wear glasses AND have astigmatism,
Thanks for the heads up I’ll avoid this ranger.
