I'm interested in possibly getting a Vortex Razor HD Gen II 3-18x50 FFP EBR-7C MOA but I have a problem that I hope someone who has one might be able to clarify.

The problem I have is with locking turrets... I absolutely think its the stupidest thing ever put on a scope and would like to know if there is a way to jam it so it does not lock.

Could a washer be placed under the turret to keep it extended in the un locked position?

I don't like the Christmas tree reticle either, but to be perfectly honest I would rather just get a scope that has everything I want the way I want but I'm running out of options here.

If scopes are sold by the pound, this one has to be the cheapest on the market.

I am a vortex fanboy to a degree, however if your in that 3k bracket lots of options start to open up. If you don’t like the Xmas reticle and locking turrets I’d start looking at other options in the similar price bracket.

Pound for pound I think the PTS Gen2 has little competition at that price, in your bracket however...

I’d take a good look at nightforce NX8 for slightly less money or ATAKR line for slightly more money. Both have the less busy reticle options that may be more to your liking. Precision optics carries the full line of them and other similar price point brands that are worth a look.

I cant stand the ATACR... used one for a match and couldn't stand it. Terrible scope. Windage turret is capped and hard to turn if it isnt and it has a tight eye box and shallow depth of field

I have 2 nightforce NSX 5.5-22 and love them. Great depth of field and easy to get behind, but second focal plane.

I have a Kahles 624 but it has a shallow depth of field... I wish it compared to the NSX.

Never tried an NX8 though

Sorry for the rant, but at these scope prices, I expect quality, and these scope makers are flogging crap at rip off prices. 20 years ago, scope makers had integrity. Now they sell bells and whistles on product that fails at the technical and practical level.

If there is a great FFP scope out there, I still haven't found it.

The locking turrets are nice actually but that's my opinion. Once unlocked, it does take a purposeful push to get them to lock again. I wouldn't worry about them accidentally locking on you.

A xmas tree reticle is generally preferred for PRS style matches, but you might be able to find an old Gen 2 Razor with the EBR 1 reticle, which isn't a xmas tree style.

If you don't like the eyebox on the ATACR you will hate the NX8 even more, the sweet spot on the eyebox is very limited and unless your very repeatable in your gun mount and positioning you may find yourself fighting with it. I've owned both and sold off the NX8 within 2 weeks of owning it, others have had similar complaint but I am only one voice on a sample size of one but there does seem to be a theme around this with the NX8 models. I went back to Swarovski myself.

Good for you for moving on. Not enough guys are sharing these experiences on the forums so company's get away with flogging over priced badly concieved crap.

No locking turret and no busy reticle. Easily on the same level as the razor optically. Lifetime warranty. Don’t let the price fool you. Easily a top tier scope in my opinion. I’m pretty sure they’re back in production.

Just don't push them down and lock them... I assume you are going to use it for Rimfire PRS, and you are going to want a 'hold-over reticle' (christmas tree people call it) for accurately holding with elevation and windage at the same time... The 7C reticle is awesome for that. Athlon has a reticle that is very similar that also has a tiny target dot in the center...
