I already have a Vortex Solo R/T 8 X 36 monocular. It retails for $189.00 at Cabela's and P&D Ent. in Edmonton. It's small and fits nicely in a pocket or small pouch. The glass is clear and it's easy to use. But it doesn't reach waaay out there. I've been looking at the Recon R/T 15 X 50 at roughly $700. It weighs 15.2 ounces which is 5 ounces heavier than the Solo R/T. I could still carry it in a pouch or a jacket pocket. Last time I was in Edmonton, I tried locating one at P&D, Cabela's, and Wholesale Sports but no luck.

I'm hoping that it would be able to clearly identify a human at 1000 yards/metres. I don't need to be able to count the buttons on a shirt.

My questions are:
1) Is anyone familiar with the Recon R/T and can you share your thoughts on it?
2) Will an object at 1000 yards/metres appear to be 60-odd yards/metres away looking through a 15 X 50 lense?

Thanks,
Jim

I was in Wholesale Sports 12 days ago and they had one, I looked at it and played a little bit with it and was suitably impressed! There was no way I could afford the $ to buy it so I picked up its little bro 10x25 monocular for $99.00+tax was like $111.00. Very cool!!!

Thanks. I'll be in Edmonton in a couple of weeks and will drop by WS. Yes, those little monoculars are nice: pocket size, really clear glass and not expensive.
