Vortex Scout

I’ve had a couple of them, including one on a Ruger Scout. They are a good and rugged scope at a decent price. The downside is that I found the eye-box on them to be very small and difficult. I didn’t seem to be able to find that distance where the scope was properly focused at 2X, and was still focused at 7X. It seemed like you had to choose one or the other.

The Burris Scout scope is exceptional, but is also about twice as expensive. The one that I found I really liked, and at about the same price as the Vortex, is the Hi-Lux from Wolverine.

Kepet - Do you know the QUALITY of the Hi Lux scopes ? Warranty GOOD ? Easy like a Vortex ? Thxs RJ

Well, they ain’t no Leupold or Nightforce, but for the price they are a decent quality. They have one with a BDC reticle that’s supposedly calibrated for the .308 scout rifles. As for warranty - it’s Wolverine. I ordered one a few years ago, and there was a factory defect. They sent me a return thingy for the post office, and had a new one on the way before I even shipped the first one back. Don’t know that they have the same no questions asked warranty that Vortex does. You’d have to ask the boys at Wolverine. Honestly though, at the price point, I’m willing to take the chance.

I should add, that I can’t speak to all the Hi-Lux scopes, or their quality. I’ve heard good and bad about them. I’ve got a 1-4 power CMR that’s been on an AR for 10 years and it’s still working great, but I haven’t deployed to any war zones with it. It got me through my first season of 3 gun though.

I’ve had one of the scouts on a .308 for about 6 or 7 years with no problems. And I just ordered another one from them about a month ago, to replace a Vortex Scout the I sold with a rifle.
