I was looking for a affordable reliable red dot for the colt usa rifle I have comming. I was interested in the vortex sparc but as I was reading the specs it says it's minimum operation temperature is -20 Celsius. That's almost a non starter for me living in canada, what are your taughts?

anything with a battery in it will not last long below -20 C. I have successfully used my SPARC and other Vortex illuminated and red dot sights in the winter with no issues, other than shortened battery life. also, lifetime warranty, find that on another comparably priced product

I've got an eotech exps2 that I've ran in -47. The only issue was my breath fogging up the glass. I had a brand new battery in it so I didn't notice any issues with it being dimmer than usual.

Rally guy, not sure where you went.... but Vortex stands behind their products.
If it breaks because you are out hunting in minus 41deg Celsius you will still be covered......maybe tell them it was -40C if they ask.... :)
Spare battery is always a good idea regardless of temperature and if it's damn cold keep it close to the body.

LOL. find me a battery powered gizmo that actually will run equally well under -20 as it does at +20.....not many out there, if any at all. All batteries have reduced power when its that cold, anyone who knows basic chemistry will tell you atoms dont flow as freely the colder they get.

Just get yourself a set of flip up irons for the winter. I use an AIMPOINT Pro Comp ML3 and I can cowitness just fine with my irons...
