I had planned to run my PCC with the stock ironsights but it seems my AR will no longer be needing an optic so perhaps this will be a good fit for it. Anyone ever dropped a Spitfire on the Ruger? Was it too high? I suppose I could get one of the MCarbo cheek risers if that's the case.

Might as well get out and use the ones I still can while I still can.

It's going to be super high. The first gen Spitfire could be modified to remove the riser block, that would help. But the Spitfire AR can't remove that riser. I run a Cmore RTS2 pistol-style RDS and even it is too high, I had to build a whack cheek riser. A Spitfire at full height will be much worse.

I was afraid that might be the case. Not the end of the world as far as the rifle goes, the irons look pretty effective and functional, I just don't really have another suitable gun to drop that optic on currently......maybe this isn't so bad, perhaps this is all the justification I'll need to buy a more suitable gun for it : )

Should I decide down the road I do want a prismatic sight for it, does anyone know if the Primary Arms is capable of being mounted lower than the Vortex?

I put a Sparc11 on my PCC and it works fine. I don't shoot 3Gun but do shoot IDPA PCC Division. (At least I will once our range re-opens). For IDPA the height over bore axis really does become an issue when shooting at targets inside of 25 yards. Hitting the 4" circle at the top of our target at 10 yards is not hard BUT if your sight is 2 1/2" or more above the bore it is easy enough to end up with a second down or a miss if a head shot is required. I settled on a 10 yard zero as a compromise and have tested how low I must hold at 15 and 35 yards.

The Hornady Ballistic Tables and a Chronograph are your friends when to comes to making your decision as to where to zero your sight.

I have a Crossfire2 available to use and I may make the switch only because it sits even lower on the gun and is a newer generation of sight with nicer features.

I am hopeful the Conservatives will provide enough push back on the "Banning" to justify the removal of some of the designs from the list when they get into power after the next election.

Well, with the Spitfire being a bust, and my eyes not working well with red dots, anyone care to comment on whether they think the Primary Arms 1x20mm Cyclops ACSS prism scope might work? I see it has a low mount that can be purchased meant to make it compatible with rifles like the AK that have a comb on the buttstock that is lower than the reciever, much like the Ruger. Seem viable?

i cant comment on the primary arms but my (getting) older eyes dont care for red dots much so i took the red dot of my PC9 and put a Bushnell 1x4 AR optic on it and i really like it!

*edit - that should say PCC not PC9, but then i remembered that i run the same optic on both the PCC and the PC9 so the edit wasnt needed so now im just rambling on in a edit section with no clear way to exit...... *

Just removed an Eagle buttpad storage/cheek riser from my now prohibit M-14. (It joins a converted TRW M-14 that was sent to grandfather purgatory in the 90's).

It works to get you cheek high enough for the higher dot sights. You can add some padding to raise it higher.
As a bonus it holds two magazines in the zippered pouch for "on rifle" ammo supply.

I have the black version and it matches the rifle nicely.

^^^^That's another interesting option, would be much cheaper than buying a new optic. I really like my Spitfire, but the mount is just so high. I know MCarbo makes a cheek riser pad as well but I doubt it provides enough rise to make that Spitfire work.

I have a spitfire on another rifle. I can transfer it over to the Ruger tonight and report back what I found with respect to if it can work.

Sure, that would be great. I can do the same I suppose but without currently having a cheek riser it'll only likely tell me that the Spitfire is too high.

I also have a TRS 25 on my Ruger PC Carbine. I think, it's a very good set up. I don't need any scope.

I'm not looking for a typical scope, just a 1x prism with etched reticle as red dots don't work well with my eyes. If I could mount my Spitfire right on top of the receiver I'd run that happily. The factory iron sights are pretty good anyway so I may just stick with them for awhile.
