Hello all. I decided to give this rds a try as Vortex has a positive reputation. I decided to go with this one as Aimpoint bothers my eyes and I have owned many Eotechs, so why not try something new. I bought it new from SFRC for 369 and change, less than almost all used Eotechs.

Standard box........

Size wise it is similar to the Aimpoint pro. It is solid and seems to be well built. Comes with manual, allen wrench, lens cloth and extra screws. The windage and elevation knobs have screw on caps with wire for retention. The lens caps are flip up, and have springs for that added pop! There are 5 power settings for both red and green reticle. It also has the reticle etched on the lens so if your power fails, you still have something to aim with.

The battery cap can be loosened with a coin or screwdriver. It is on tight. I must have to up my bench press because i couldn't budge it. I used both the penny and trigger lock key pictured. I also put my first wear and tear marks on the battery cover. It does come with a battery already loaded otherwise I would be still at it!

This is red power level 1

Red number 5

Green 1

And green 5

This is power setting 0 aka off

Overall I am impressed. It feels well built and seems like it will do what i want, plinking and the odd 3 gun fun. I have yet to take it to the range, and I will give an update when i do. I think it is a good lower to mid rds that is cheaper than the high end optics. But hey, thats my opinion.

It looks good on my ar!
Thanks for looking!

that looks pretty solid built and i like that the rectile is etched on the lens. i once had the battery dies on a cheapo red dot and had to go iron sights and that was no fun plinking at 200 yards. would this work upto 200 yards. ?? let us know how the range test goes. thx.

I found the same with my Sparc when I unboxed it; the covers were all screwed on tight... monkey tight... gorilla tight... I finally used a pair of channel-locks to get them off. Once they were off, I can loosen and tighten them by hand easily. What kind of Popeye arms do the assemblers have? LOL

Hello again. I managed to get out to the range today. Snowing and a balmy 0 degrees. At least i had the range to myself.
Still haven't managed to loosen the battery cap, I think thats an issue future me will deal with.

This was my first group. I had it one Number 2 setting in green. quickly found out that the green and orange from the target dont mix well, or my eyes suck. Changed it to red, and all was well.

For my second grouping, I went left instead of right with the clicks. Doh!

My third grouping looked promising.

And for my fourth I decided to shoot low left of Bullseye. I was happy with this result.

Finally, this is 25 rounds at 25m standing rapid fire, I was getting cold and wanted to be in front of my fireplace.

Ultimately, i sighted in at 25m, not holding a very tight position as the weather slowly got to me. Even then it only took 20 rounds to get on to where I was satisfied with the results. I wanted to try it out to 200m, but had no interest in walking that far today. Had i been a month earlier with my purchase, I probably would have taken the time to properly sight it in.

I am impressed with this sight. I feel this is a great low-mid range sight for the casual or competitive shooter. Don't think I would bring it to the sandbox, but those days are behind me.
Hope you enjoyed the read!

I really like the magnify version, I bought it because the typical projected red dot looks like a exploding star with my ageing eyes and the magnify version comes with a BDC style reticle along with +/- focus adjustment in the eye piece as well.

thanks for the range report. i would like to go this route but wondering if it is high enough to clear the front post sights on the AR. i hate looking through glass and seeing the tip of the front sight.

Should be high enough. It comes with a riser already installed, similar to an aimpoint t1 or h1. For me, I would drop the riser since I do a lot of shooting from standing etc. this model also has a +/- focal adjustment on it as well.

I found the doubler that came with my Vortex completely useless, but the 3x I have seen was quite nice.
