Took my new CQA to the range today. After I sighted in the carry handle sight. I removed it and sighted in the Strikefire.

After 20 rounds of Fiochi ball it was sighted in at 50 yards. I started checking it at 100 yards when the red dot disappeared.

I put in a fresh battery and still no luck. It's dead.

Guess I'll find out how good the lifetime guarantee is

That's too bad Geo, Your not the first to post about a quick dieing Vortex either. From what I've heard the warranty process is painless but still sucks to have to go through it right off the bat!

How was the new carbine?

I was going to stick one on my AR but now that’s a few lemons I seen posted. So it just died? Slowly got dimmer or boom lights out? going to rethink what red dot to go with. Thanks for posting this.

That's too bad.

I would never put Vortex optics on a rifle for serious work. But for casual trips to the range, you'd think that they would be somewhat adequate.

These "my Vortex has died" comments are becoming more and more frequent.

My Sparc hasn't yet (cross my fingers), but I don't have many rounds or much use on it yet.

Junk scopes.

You obviously have little to no experience with Vortex products. I have been using Vortex for over three years now and yes I have had a couple of minor issues, but they were fixed for me FAST. Not the three to four month waiting periods I was experiencing with Bushnell and Leupold.

I have used everything from their lowest price Crossfire scopes, the two different red dots, the Diamondbacks and the Vipers, and I have their binos and their spotting scopes too. No problems as far as I am concerned, and to just say that a complete product line is junk is absurd. There are lots of guys on here that are using the Vortex products with no issues and they are happy with them.

I could say the same thing about Bushnell because my father has a little Mossberg 20 gauge slug gun, it has eaten three Bushnells, now we put a Vortex on it, and it has seen at least a 100 rounds of the same ammo with no issues.

How was the new carbine?

Worked great, accurate, reliable feed and extraction of ball ammo from both the OEM mags and the 10 round LAR mags.

It will not feed Winchester JHPs as I had read from other posters.

It just stopped working after around 30 rounds of 55 grain Fiochi ball. I took the battery out and it came back on for 2 rounds and then died for good.

Suspect it's the switch.

Tell me, has anyone every had an aimpoint sh*t the bed?? The fact that there have been several cases of sudden death in an optic under ideal conditions is alarming. Lets try dropping one and see if it works, I know an Aimpoint will. On another note, Bushnell puts out crap for the most part as well. Not bad optics if you run a rimfire or sight in and leave them alone, but they're not overly reliable if you intend to spin the knobs frequently.

You get what you pay for.

True TDC, you never hear about broken Aimpoints...... and it must have happened at least once!

If it happened often though it would be posted somewhere specially if it happend in year 6 of ownership..... You get what you pay for with Aimpoint and I guess the fact that they only offer a 5 year warranty doesn't matter if they never ever break.

The battery life being measured in years is a huge bonus.

I am not familiar with Aimpoint so I will refrain from comment. But to say that NO ONE has ever had a bad experience with Aim Point is a pretty bold statement and dammed impressive if anywhere near the truth. I have been in contact with the Canadian Vortex Distributer, and they claim that they get less than one percent defective product with the Strikefire. I have one, had it for about two years, I use it mainly on my 12 gauge for slugs and turkey loads. It is still on the original battery and never missed a beat. I guess I got the only good one?

My Vortes is fine (60 rounds later) , have it on my my 300 mag. But note, the red dot only works in low light conditions ( this is mentioned in the catalog also). If it's sunny you won't see the red dot.

In that case, it's not working correctly. The dot should have enough adjustment to be used in all lighting conditions.
