I'm going to put my BSA Martini up for sale and pick me up a Winchester M70 Supergrade in 30-06. Originally I was thinking of the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 with the Rapid Z 600 reticle.

I've recently found out about Vortex Vipers. I really like the idea of the side focus knob and very big and easily accessible zoom knob and the custom turrets

Anyone have experience with these? How do they compare with Zeiss?

I haven't looked through either but It hink I will prefer the Rapid Z 600 reticle vs the Deadhold reticle. I find heavier lines of the reticle distracting.

Any particular Vortex Viper you would recommend or not recommend for a hunting rifle for deer, moose, caribou out to 300 yards

Just put a viper 3-9x40 on my hmr and for $420 it is a darn fine scope. Very clear even on a cloudy day. My m70 should be here any day and if the conquest I want is still in stock it will be on the m70. Vortex makes great scopes though i have/ have had 4 now and all are great.

Which is the Conquest scope you are planning to get on your M70?

Right now the Zeiss Conquest is at $499 with the Z Plex reticle and Viper at $329 with the Dead Hold BDC reticle at GrouseRiver. I'd prefer the RapidZ I think which is at $650.

I think I'm going to have to head down to Bass Pro to see if they have these in stock as well and try to compare side by side. Viper at that price sounds too good to be true if it really does compare with the Zeiss for about 1/3 less.
