This is Vortex's new compact reflex red dot sight and I can't find any reviews on it. Just unboxed my Vortex Venom 3moa reflex rds ($329 @ SFRC w/free shipping-now sold out, other retailers may have it) and plan of using it on my Mossberg 590A1 12g shotgun. Bought a rail on Amazon with good reviews, seems to be solid. Just picked it up at the PO and haven't sighted it in or shot with it yet, initial impression is good. I have a Bushnell First Strike w/hi-rise mount coming that I was going to slap on my Thureon Defense carbine. Will post a follow up when I shoot with it. Hope this helps someone, seems to be very little traffic in the Optic section for some reason.

Lowest setting, gets quite bright. Still have to take it to the farm and sight it in.

Initially was worried about my cheek weld, but after holding it - doesn't seem to be an issue.

Bottom is a bore sighter, top is the red dot (about 8yds). Unsure where I should zero it or if I should adjust anything at this short distance.

^ Wish the dots were that clear to my terrible eyes, my astigmatism plays with it... they look more like flares but it's still effective for me. Love my Vortex Strikefire on my JRC.

How is the dot vs the strike fire when it comes to the bad eyes and target acquisition?

The dots look the same, my astigmatism is the problem, not the dots. Won't know how fast target acquisition is until I shoot with it. Haven't had time to do anything with it yet. Impressed with build quality so far, very light and compact.

I had limited time today, took my First Strike on my Thureon Defense Carbine and my Vortex Venom/590A1 package to the range. My boresighter got me on paper at 15yds but it was off a touch. Did some adjustments and the dials must be flipped opposite because Up meant Down and vice versa. Pretty strange and confusing for me.

Only shot about 10 slugs and got it close to zeroed (didn't have the time to fine tune it). Didn't feel like shooting my whole box (wish I had video of the flame thrower my 14" shotty turned into with the slugs  ) but take my word for it. The dot was nice and bright, still very early on but it held up to the recoil.

Preliminary testing is good, don't think I'll have any problems with this rds.
