I am looking to finally upgrade from my VX-1 so that I can start shooting out a bit further. I just saw this sale is going on at Cabela's,

This seems like a pretty good deal, any thoughts? Worth the money? I will be using the scope mainly for hunting and mounting it on a .270. My main concerns with it are the lack of BDC option and the weight. Is there a similarly priced alternative that you would recommend over this scope? I am open to suggestions.

Thanks!

I have the 2.5-10 version of it and mine has performed great. Mine is sitting on a .243 though so it hasn't had to handle anything with stiffer recoil. I've used a 4-16 for hunting in the past and found 4x was too much magnification inside of 50 yards, especially when the animal is moving. Other companies make 3-12 scopes which may be a better fit for you.

IMO don't waste money in vortex. I had a PST and I had nothing but problems with them. If anything... by Zeiss or even the leupold mark AR are nice scopes.

I have a couple 4-16×44's. Glass quality isn't very good and one of them doesn't seem to be holding zero anymore. Still need to investigate and see if it is going in for warrantee work. I would avoid now. Look at the leupold vx3i line up as well as Nikon. Sight sponsor precision optics has a good selection.

I have had one with BDC for 4 or 5 years now on 300wm that is my main hunting rifle with no issues. Glass and light gathering are great for the price.

i have had this model on rifles in 308, 300 Win Mag, 338 Win Mag, 338 Lapua, 300 and 7RUM. no issues.

any brand or make or model of rifle scope can have a flawed model or two. the only Vortex optics that have challenged are the Crossfire models with the illuminated reticule. Put them onto a rifle that shakes them too much and warranty, which has either replaced or repaired and the last repair was an upgrade from nitrogen purging to argon. Never had to send the same scope back twice, in fact, only 2 crossfire illuminated and have over 20 vortex on all calibers including those listed above.

Thanks for all of the input, I've decided to hold off and save a bit more for something with a BDC style reticle/a bit lighter. I will probably stick with Leupold after reading about quality issues with Vortex - that price was just super tempting. Thanks again!
